    Weak Deaths

After reading some of the posts in this thread I have decided: Weak deaths: Not necessarily a bad thing. More often than not an awesome and hilarious thing.

    Weak Deaths

Haha, yeah it kind of seem that way huh? Lol no actually, I've NEVER seen one that I can recall, that's why I ask. Me personally, as well as some other DMs I know, will save the character from the death. You fall off the mountain? Well you don't die, but you take a TON of damage, and almost all...

    Sweet death

We were in a sunken city looking for some magic item or something, swimming around underwater with breathing spells. We ran into a couple of super beasty dire demon sharks. Combat went really badly and they were just tearing us up. Our cleric was dropped, and the party retreated back to this...

    Weak Deaths

People are making some good points, and I have to say I'm kinda surprised at how adamant so many people are about having so called "weak" deaths.A question to everyone though, which was in the OP:Have you witnessed a "weak" death? Have you actually been killed by a failed skill check like climb...

    Weak Deaths

EXACTLY what I'm trying to get at here. You're not going to kill a character over something like that. There will be a negative effect like losing some gear or something, but they won't die. This is precisely what I mean by no weak deaths. It doesn't mean no consequences.

    Weak Deaths

Yeah I guess OTOH sometime a death of just pure failure is going to be memorable and cool in its humor. "Remember that time Jimmy couldn't roll above a 4, tripped off the cliff, caused an avalanche and landed on his sword? That was hilarious! How can you suck so much?" I just don't like...

    Weak Deaths

I'd say that's hardly a weak death. That's actually pretty cool...

    Weak Deaths

Scenario: You're playing an 18th level character you've run since first level for over 3 years in real time. He's the leader of the party, and the hope of middle-earth. He's defeated dragons and hordes of undead. His magic weapons are legendary. This character is really part of YOU. You've...

    Weak Deaths

Myself and a few other DMs I've played with have a sort of unwritten rule against "weak" or "stupid" PC deaths. Basically if you have a great character doing all these great things, fighting tons of villains and just being generally heroic and awesome, you don't let them die because of something...

How to stop player whining? Drama!

Yeah that's how I feel. I have a lot more fun in a tough campaign then an easy one.

So how did things turn out with him?

How to stop player whining? Drama!

UPDATE! (finally) Well we finally got in another session after "the incident". We hadn't played for a while do to our normal week off and our DM being sick. Things were good, no problems at all. Great play session. Granted nothing bad happened to the player. We were actually hugely...

In game effect of mechanical hand

 No, it's Jake Cauldron, from Jake Chambers of The Dark Tower series, and Cauldron for The Black Cauldron. He's based off of Mugen from Samurai Champloo, but with two pistols instead of a sword. Awesome ideas. I was already thinking about the breaking stuff bonus, but I like the others a...

In game effect of mechanical hand

My character in a Wild West Steampunk game has a mechanical hand. Right now it's purely for flavor, but I was wondering if anyone had any cool ideas for an actual in game effect the hand could have?

How to stop player whining? Drama!

LOL I knew someone was going to say this. Maybe we keep him around because he IS such a good friend? I know he sounds like a HUGE douche, but he's not as bad as he seems. It's really weird honestly. :-S Very hard to describe. And although he sucks a lot as I've shown, he is a good player in...

    Steampunk

I've always thought Steampunk was pretty cool, but never really got into it until a few months ago. We started playing a Western Steampunk game using about 75% D&D 3.5 rules and 25% homebrew/miscellanious rules, just as a change of pace from the traditional Sword and Sorcery fantasy setting...

How to stop player whining? Drama!

Actually wasn't the case with the potion/fire incident. We ran out of there in our long johns in a hurry to catch the thugs, and the DM actually asked us if we were stopping for other gear or armor, and we said no, just grabbing our guns and rushing after these guys. Although, ONE character...

How to stop player whining? Drama!

@ DumbPaladin: Well most of the bad things that happen to him happen to at least one other person as well, like being shot for a ton of damage by the gatling gun, or the items lost in the fire. IF something doesnt work out for someone else and he's not involved, he's kinda bummed about it like...

How to stop player whining? Drama!

Couple things: Yes, I would say he definitely has the trying to "win" mindset of us vs. the DM. And I would say he definitely doesn't trust the DM. I'm not really sure how we can make him trust the DM though. Some of the bad things that have happened to him have been semi cheap, but not really...
