DMs are too easy on their players

Man, this is strange, just last night I had a discussion about this. A regular who I've known for years (don't really like him, but have known him for forever) was watching us play at the hobbyshop, and he complained that my game was too easy, and wasn't a "good RPG". My players and I said hey...

July - what are you reading?

Just finished American Gods by Neil Gaiman, which was freakin awesome, so I'll probably check out more of his stuff. That or World War Z, which my friends tell me is pretty sweet.

    How Did You Start Playing?

I have a long tale of how I got into all this. So: I was a jock for a long time. (still am actually) and I played a lot of hockey. So when I was playing one season, whenever we won our coach would take everyone for ice cream (his mom owned the candy store.) We went like 23-2 that year, so we...

    Must-Have Dungeon Magazines/Adventures

I just can not say enough good things about issue 94. Chok full of adventures, and everything in there is useful at one point in a campaign. Two really cool Critical Threats, a low level side trek that can serve as a great hook, a sweet bear hunting adventure, one of the best small dungeons I've...

DM Prep Work Leading To Burnout: Help?

Really, the best thing to do is take a couple months off. I suffered from burnout BAD. I just couldn't get psyched to run the game and it became pretty weak. Horrible actually. So I just stopped playing for a few months, then started again as a player. I'm DMing again, and though it sounds lame...

    Red Hand of Doom

I think he's referring to Gorlub from that one campaign you just ended with Ferrus and the ogre army.

What, no thread for the 2007 NHL draft?

See, the NHL draft isn't as big a deal, because there are so many players in it, and because of the way hockey works the earlier picks aren't that much better than the 2nd and 3rd rounders. Where as in basketball, there are only 60 players drafted (maybe), and in the NFL the early picks are...

What kind of player are you

Whoo-hoo, first vote! I like leveling and being able to do even more cool stuff. And the cool treasure, allthough story is pretty important to me too. But that might just be because I DM a lot.

    Adventure ideas after 10th level

And it's Forgotten Realms to boot. Even if you don't do the whole thing, it's still great.

Your Favorite Dungeon Villains and Locations?

Maure Castle of course. And both from issue 94, the Spiral of Mansezzine (the mind flayer prison), and Nahkti (the Nerull cultist leader Mummy). Oh, and Evard! (from 107)

Adventures in Elsir Vale before Red Hand of Doom starts? - please no RHoD spoilers

One fun shorty is "The Burning Plague" free on the WoTC website. It's a perfect fit for Red Rock. I'm doing the Mysterious Tower (lvl. 3-5).

What mini-bosses do you love sending at the players?

Barbarian, especially at lower levels, because one hit can end it all.

Anyone ever play with a female DM?

Yeah I have, it was the Everquest RPG, and it was really bad. She was too focused on making her NPC's seem really cool, and tried to make it to much like a video game. Not in a hurry to do it again. Allthough I've played with plenty of bad male DM's too.

    Are DMs subsidizing player fun?

Yeah, it can be rough. I have to buy all the adventures. However, we split the cost of D&D Minis evenly.
