    Tumble problems

Hilarious. Speaking of minutia, I remember playing a post-apocalyptic Modern game where the DM made us scrounge for every last drop of gasoline. The idea itself was cool; execution? Not so much. The game devolved into an endless series of roll after roll after roll. After a while the novelty...

    Favorite PHB Race!

Voted Human. Two reasons; 1. I like the extra flexibility that is intrinsic to the race. 2. I can relate to a human character much more easily than to other things. I feel like I could never really roleplay an elf to my own satisfaction.

    Big and Strong race help.

Could have sworn Goliaths qualify for that feat because of their Powerful Build. Also, if you're wanting to "get bigger," there is a Rage substitution for Goliaths, also in Races of Stone, called Mountain Rage that lets them actually become large-sized during the rage.

    Tumble problems

So guys.... tumbling.... Still curious if the OP ever did anything with what was suggested or what solution he came up with. Even though we don't share the same play-styles it would be interesting to find out.

What is the #1 most important thing to remember about DMing?

My one and only DM rule: Never take the player's power of choice away from them. You can come up with repercussions all day long, but in the end, THEY make THEIR choices. It's your job to roll with it.

Break my game: Indestructible sword at level 1

Well, someone will buy it. A simple demonstration should be enough for some noble somewhere to be willing to throw down gold for it. And note I said benevolent wizard; I wouldn't be trying to peddle this thing to some self-serving miser in a lonely tower of power. Without knowing all the...

    Tumble problems

Meh. I think the comparison is apt enough to illustrate my point. SW: Saga and 4th Edition both use d20 and are different as well. I guess we can just agree to disagree. Anywho, a few options to fix your issues with tumble have been suggested; thoughts on those?

Break my game: Indestructible sword at level 1

I would sell this indestructible headache off to some rich benevolent wizard, then spend the resulting hundreds of thousands of GP on a sweet fortress somewhere and build an army. I'd simultaneously be doing a service to the world (giving it to someone who could realistically protect and hang...

    Tumble problems

Water Bob, you are saying the exact same thing pneumatik is. He said if you want that feel from D&D you'll need to change some things. You then say it can do all types of games.... if you change some things. Actually those are all different games. To base the assumption that something is the...

    Tumble problems

This is actually quite similar to the Base Attack Check from Iron Heroes. In that game, it's a Tumble v. BAB+STR/DEX (whichever is higher). Supposed to represent martial skill at avoiding things like that. Very neat that you came up with the same solution, Aluvial, I like the mechanic myself...

D&D 3E/3.5 Vote for your favorite core Class!!! (3.5)

At lover levels, or in a campaign where the items that could mitigate the problem aren't present or readily available, I always just bought a chain shirt and slept in that. "Fighter jammies" is what I call them. I did this too in some towns where they would look at me funny if I walked through...

    A Return to Traveller

This is our group as well. There's a couple of us that have tried and tried to get the rest interested in a Traveler game, but they'd rather play Star Wars if they're in a space mood. You can't evoke an "Alien" feel from Star Wars (well, not as easily), and that is what I want! I have poured...

    Finding your roleplaying style

"Seekers" - People who just seek to enjoy an evening of relaxation, drinking a couple cold ones, laughing with their friends, ribbing each other, all while playing a game of make believe with dice attached to it. "PooPooers" - People who come and poo all over everyone's fun by telling them they...

    AD&D: There and Back Again - a Role-Player's Tale

I just have to say that the AD&D lumin describes sounds exceptionally boring and unimaginative; the polar opposite of what I expect from an RPG. If I am a person in a game-world, why should I not be able to even attempt something just because my class lacks an entry or table for it? I'm no...

Using Mythic Game Master Emulator as a refereeing tool: two actual play examples

I only gave it a go once with myself and a couple other players when we were bored and wanted to do some Classic Traveller. We didn't get far, but what we did do was fun. I think it fits that game nicely as well. Thanks for the play examples!

D&D 3E/3.5 Vote for your favorite core Class!!! (3.5)

My favorites: 1. Barbarian - Just a class that screams "balls-to-the-wall" awesome action to me. 2. Fighter - I like playing crusty campaigners who use experience and grit to pull through. 3. Rogue - Coming up with ways to get rich is so much fun, and it can drive an adventure most times. 4...

    Tumble problems

I like details too; but to go to this excruciating level of it would be rather bothersome to me. It sets the stage for a party of clumsy goofballs rather than heroes. I like to pretend to be an awesome warrior who knows what he's about, not some loon-tard who can't keep his pants up when he...

    D20 Jedi Guardian in D&D

Have you talked to the player directly and saying, "Dude, I love Jedi as much as the next guy, but you're seriously throwing me for a loop coming up with encounters to challenge both you and the party without it being a complete wash. I'm all for fun, but I don't want to other guys to feel left...

    Selling gems and jewels

From the d20 SRD: Selling Loot In general, a character can sell something for half its listed price. Trade goods are the exception to the half-price rule. A trade good, in this sense, is a valuable good that can be easily exchanged almost as if it were cash itself. Wealth...
