    Clark Peterson on 4E

I'm going to say that Clark's lost me as a customer. I am not terribly impressed with the concrete rule changes he's citing as part of the D&D "soul" - depowered classes and wizard-uber-alles? That's what I picked up Book of Nine Swords, and later 4th Edition, to get away from! If you change the...

    GSL FAQ up

Just like they have a motive to go after Transformers and G.I. Joe fansites. Wait, they don't. Fansite = free advertising.

Should I spend money for 4th edition?

From what I've seen, based on the pre-release games I've played in, if you like blazing action peppered with variety and cleverness, you can do a hell of a lot worse than D&D 4. I'm buying it at my FLGS, which makes it a little more than a full day's wages for me. Still worth it.

D&D 4E Standing Guard in 4e...no rest for you?

I generally simply don't bother with nighttime encounters in camp. Either an encounter happens as the PCs are making camp in the evening, or as they're breaking camp in the morning.

    GSL news.

Of the games you have mentioned (and I will mention that I LOVE SOTC IN ALL CAPS), I doubt their annual sales put together come up to even 10% of D&D's monthly sales. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if their annual sales put together don't even equal 1% of D&D's monthlies.

    New GSL Announcement

That statement does not logically exclude producing both 3.x and 4E product. It says, "If you can sustain yourself totally on 3.x product, great, more power to you. Otherwise the 4E license is over here."

    New GSL Announcement

Scott's been about as clear as mud (sorry dude). Linnae's statement, on the other hand, is as clear and unequivocal as you can possibly hope to get.

    New GSL Announcement

Considering that the GSL only appears to forbid simultaneous use of the OGL, this idea is kinda crazy. I mean, sure, the OGL is the most commonly used open gaming license, but it's not the only open license out there that is applicable to gaming, nor is it the only open license under which RPGs...

any work about good and bad points?

Well since 4th Edition isn't actually OUT yet, that would be rather difficult.

Are you going to buy an EXTRA copy of the PHB?

I'm getting two copies - one for me and one for my SO.

    My WoTC Interview

The Rouse is, last I heard, a Senior Brand Manager, so Mr. Chase probably reports to him.

How Are You Passing the Time Until June?

Amen, bro. Also completing my 3.5 campaign and planning my first 4E campaign, intended to start centuries after the end of my 3.5... in a tavern. ;)

    Sequels to Successes

The Empire Strikes Back was actually only sort of planned. It was planned in the sense that Lucas had a plan to do more movies in the Star Wars universe - his originally planned sequel was Splinter of the Mind's Eye - a wretched little thing that we are all happy he didn't actually make...

    Sequels to Successes

Just curious - six core books? Do you two not live together? Because my girlfriend and I are getting just four core books (two PHBs, the DMG and MM).

    How long after June 6?

I'm planning on calling some friends over same-day to try it out. On the 7th I'll be at the Source for Worldwide D&D Game Day (hopefully we'll have someone like Andy Collins or James Wyatt there - last November we had Mike Mearls). This year I mean to show up at least half an hour early - there...

D&D 4E My First 4E Game: Disappointing. Yours? (UPDATED with player feedback)

My D&D Game Day experience from last year was much the same: The adventure was amusing enough for basically a little two-hour hack and slash module, but overall I felt little or no connection to my fighter. That's OK, for what it's worth, for a "convention" module but for a game I'm going to sit...

House Rules: Using circular templates weaken classes?

I am going to be running RAW first, then introducing house rules afterward. Seriously, try the new rules at the table before you start monkeying with them - you never know what's going to grow on you until you've done it (people bitched LOUDLY before release about, say, 3E's cyclical initiative...
