D&D 5E Adventures in other eras?

I had never thought of it as Wild west, but I can see that and I suppose that makes it all rather American. Not that makes it bad, just arguably distinct.

D&D 5E Rebooting other Domains of Ravenloft (Post CoS)

I find myself thinking similar thoughts - however, how do you keep it from becoming cultural appropriation on cultural stereotyping? For example, Karkov could be an interesting case for a sub-Saharan African setting. Or even something going on in the Americas ( I just finished reading the book...

D&D 5E Curse of Strahd spoiler-filled general discussion

If I were to run the work, I think I would have one of the male PC's turn out to be a reincarnation of Sergi.

D&D 5E Adventures in other eras?

Has anyone tried using the rules in 5E D&D for other time periods or era? The game nominally has a 10th or 11th century technology and social level, aside from various anachronisms. Has anyone tried something along the 15th century (limited guns, different society) or 19th century (lots of guns...

D&D 5E Curse of Strahd spoiler-filled general discussion

My copy finally arrived in the mail this morning and so i am looking through it. Is it just me, or is the Amber Temple pointless and generally useless for the over all plot?

D&D 5E Curse of Strahd spoiler-filled general discussion

I don't have the book yet, but I've read the Death House adventure and plan to simply have the mayor ask the PCs to do with the house.

    D&D 5E Post-Strahd

They do seem to be taking a modular and DIY approach these days.

D&D 5E Curse of Strahd spoiler-filled general discussion

I gave an XP for the "refused to love a monster" comment, as it is very true. Strahd is a monster and it disappointing people try to blame her for the fact.

D&D 5E Some ideas on Azalin and Darkon

Taking away the level cap would not necessarily make him less bitter are paranoid. He was bitter and paranoid before he entered Ravenloft, actually before he became a lich. My version simply has him suffering more from his own paranoia and bitterness.

    D&D 5E Post-Strahd

That is an interesting point, given fear (a requirement for horror) usually involves a lack of power, and people play RPGS to feel powerful. And games can also turn into comedies.

D&D 5E Some ideas on Azalin and Darkon

Double posts are a plot by the Dark Powers. And the White Walkers. And by Zack Snyder's producers.

D&D 5E Some ideas on Azalin and Darkon

Yes, the DPs bring Tatyana back, but they do not magically compel Strahd to stalk her - he does that on his own. And the DPS can prevent escape without capping magical power - no one else and no other creature deals with a level cap in the setting and they are all still stuck.

D&D 5E Rebooting other Domains of Ravenloft (Post CoS)

I discuss Azalan in a thread just over there... Vladimir Drakov's domain needs reworking. One thought occurs. A lot of the Ravenloft domains were inspired either by classic horror literature or "old" horror movies. Old horror movies at the time a lot of the original material was written in the...

    D&D 5E Post-Strahd

Well, is Strahd dead or is he up in his castle, working on his poetry in a room wall-to-wall with paintings of Tatyana?

D&D 5E Some ideas on Azalin and Darkon

The best and most memorable dark lords are the ones who wrecked themselves, such as with Strahd think being a crazy stalker would turn Tatyana on and her always fleeing his advances. Likewise, Azalin should be wrecking himself and having the Dark Power be the ones to cut his ability to learn...

A question about writing an RPG Book…

The guardians cannot be gods - regular PCs need to be able to deal with them. However, I have resolved the issue, some but not all of the guardians will be detailed and others just described, and thank everyone for their response.

A question about writing an RPG Book…

A question about writing an RPG Book… I am working on an RPG book and I need some advise. Part of the book involve 26 gates to various far off places (Not Ravenloft, Pseudo-Asia, Pseudo-Ethiopia, etc.) in addition to other elements. I am comfortable with most of the work, however I cannot...

D&D 5E Curse of Strahd spoiler-filled general discussion

I tend to take a cherry-picking/hand waving approach to all published material. I pick what I want and hand wave away issue that do not suit me. I ordered CoS and it has not yet arrived, but I expect to be cherry picking and hand waving when it arrives. Strahd has been handled by many writers...

D&D 5E Some ideas on Azalin and Darkon

Thank you. I tried to turn it around into something where Azalin was torturing himself, where the thing that keeps Azalin from learning new magic is basically Azalin. I tried to suggest that with him in the leadership role, Darkon is a lot like Airstrip One of 1984, but all his power Azalin...
