Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

It wouldn't be scientifically rigorous otherwise :D My wand of xp is out of charges, regrettably :D

Meh. It's not adding to my point. Post deleted. besides. I win coz chamberlain :D

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

disclaimer: I haven't read the intervening posts yet; I just wanted to point out its interesting that both sides of this discussion have characteristic ways of framing what's going on. Personally, I'd say: Spellcasters aren't unconditionally granted any powers. RAW provides highly conditional...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

My imaginary, sandblasted, schitzophrenic, spell-fatigued chamberlain is getting a hell of a workout. It's actually become a bit of a sport for me to check the boards just to see what paces we can put him through next in his one-man crusade to succede as the poster-child for all DM styles.

Where to find a nerdy girl?

An ambituous man might look for a partner who holds him in higher esteem :D

Where to find a nerdy girl?

Majoru Oakheart. I had to laugh at this, what a silly thing to text :D Probably turned out for the best is my guess... My gf has a theory that guys are generally wired to invest more energy into hobbies; something to do with a primal instinct for developing survival skills. I don't know about...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

"...the exercise of GM "force" (I'm hating this word) to arbitrate (not necessarily constrain) action resolution, as well as fairly apply the rules of the system ensure the problem never arises in the first place..." would be a more correct interpretation, in my opinion.

    [October]What are you reading?

I think I'll only go as deep as the main series ey. I find the tortured soul stuff reads like teenage angst and I find it hard to care about the protagonist because of it. I cringe at the moments of self doubt and insecurity. I don't know if that's because it's not well done or I'm not a good...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Meh. Not even just common sense. Clear restrictions written into the rules, that if adhered to, don't allow the game breaking stuff that's touted as evidence for a broken system. Who cares who arbitrates it at the end of the day. If its there in the rules, authority-invested gamers are still not...

    [October]What are you reading?

I didn't bother reading non-fiction for a very long time (years)because I wasn't satisfied with anything. For the last year tho, I've started again. I was intrigued about gaming roots and have read Conan, Fafhrd etc and just now have finished Elric (Sailor on the Sea's of Fate); all pretty...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

I think that since 3rd edition the trend with how WOTC intends the game to be played has moved more and more toward what you would prefer. It makes sense because more invested players is a good thing all over for them. I think its a good thing. If you have players that want this much control...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

I think that game world used to limit power was a legitimate and deliberately engineered power check, given that wizards were designed in this way, "great power, great risk" kinda thing. If its a question of using it every single time to frustrate characters, that's not condoned by anyone here...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

I haven't read the intervening posts, so my response mightn't go with the general flow, but I wanted to say that I don't believe this thread is about telling you that your game style is incorrect. Just consider for a moment, removing all speculations about motivations, if rule interpretations...

Horror or Hell? Dracula or Lucifer? Ravenloft or Dante's Inferno?

Tough choice, but on intriguing alone, I'd have to pick Hell.

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

My argument is that those lengths are legitimate, and as intended. I think thats our main disagreement.

I don't like this rule does not equal the system doesn't work.

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Not you're just incompetent, but if you ignore certain rules, there might be problems. Apparently there are, and the link you posted is evidence Hussar. It would appear that its systematic; the probelmatic element seems to arise from players who disregard certain rules.

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Well I am talking about abusive combinations that were never intended. I can't speak for others, but I suspect the conversation you are referring to is a shift in focus and more about playstyle conflict. Here IS someone that can speak for me on the subject of playstyle...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

This may be a big part of the problem then; I can only speak for myself, but I'm not telling you to use force (though it may be semantics), I'm saying the system is designed with a rule0 catchall so that such problems don't arise; they designed a big system with a lot of options;- but abusive...
