Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Rule0 (or DM forcing, or arbitrating, or whatever), is still a rule, and its pretty integral to (at least) the game system in question. If you choose not to use it, the game may possibly present some problems. I'm not insisting you do, tho.

Where to find a nerdy girl?

I agree. In fact, I think most aren't, really. Most girls I've ever met or established a relationship were obviously into aspects of me they found attractive (or worthy of friendship). None of them changed their minds when they learned I gamed or whatever, and if they did it'd be a quick ticket...

    Favorite D&D Class?

I remember how excited I was to discover the Beguiler some years ago. I've been wanting to play a gnome Beguiler ever since, but haven't as yet had the opportunity. Other than that, Fochluchan Lyrist (if prestige classes qualify), and fighter/rogues (or admixtures of their class features)...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Given that the 3.x system discusses how there should be arbitration of what a character has and when a he or she has it, but wealth-by-level says you have the resources at Xth Character level, to purchase a wand of some particular spell with x charges in it, which is more correct? Who decides...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Such is the nature of open discussion, I guess; particularly of that on the internet. In defense of the last few pages, I've found interesting ideas and challenges presented, though I don't think all of them reflect what I understand to be the core of the matter either. I could be wrong here...

Where to find a nerdy girl?

Good, cause I didn't get that :D What's the best way to meet Geek Girls?? (for the OP's sake, of/c...). Uni? gaming conventions?

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

I'm sorry Hussar if this is going to sound rude, and I honestly don't mean this as a personal attack, just a suggested interpretation;- I'm open to being corrected, but it does seem that your interpretations of what people are saying is being coloured by your bad experiences with overbearing...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Although the rules provide a legitimate avenue for this to occur, given the situation you describe, the rulebooks, and various other sources advise against it. And noone is advocating this at all. To be honest, it can be a legitimate technique. If your players are absorbed in the story and are...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

I think these are good analyses, and I've got a lot out of reading your message here and in other threads, a lot of stuff I'd honestly never consider before. For argument's sake, I'll say that I think that this indie style is not absolutely trumped by anything written in a third edition if it...

The Sacred Cow Slaughterhouse: Ideas you think D&D's better without

Actually, yeah. I don't know how much of a sacred cow it is, but I'd personally be happy throw away some of the level-associated straightjackets; wealth is one of them, because it gets in the way of my fantasy. But to be honest it is pretty radical, and probably wouldn't stand up to much debate :)

Yup. PS has to go. Out with the old, in with the new.

The Sacred Cow Slaughterhouse: Ideas you think D&D's better without

My friend, if we ever debate, you can legitimately say that you have been gaming since before I was born :D Also, I only recently began to read Elric. The alignment system was the most interesting element I've taken from it; I'd like to see that take on the dynamic more of a focus.

    Yikes. Really??

Where to find a nerdy girl?

Aw man, that's very cliché. I'm seeing a co-worker, and we've been living together for 2 years now :D

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Thankyou for posting your quote, and your putting of it into context here. I'm trying to spread my experience, but alas, don't yet have the power to award more. Would you believe over the last couple of days I've read the entire thread? :/ I'd have awarded 100xp along the way weren't my ability...

    D&D 5E Monster Builder's Guide

I think it would be a good idea, especially if it appraoches anywhere near the complexity of 3.x (though seems most posters so far believe it wont). It would have a market amongst the people who like to tinker. However, I'm cautious of buying new products because I've seen low-quality stuff...

Handling and Adjucating on the fly

Absolutely, and I think it may be the only rule that you really need; with the exception of some guidelines Monte Cook? wrote in a Dungeon article some years ago (Winging It?), allowing you to easily eyeball easy, moderate and difficult DCs by level.

Handling and Adjucating on the fly

This is a good analysis. It's a fine balance, between zany and too stringent, yep. I was reading an old Dungeoncraft the other day, I think the first one that considered itself 3rd edition. It was interesting to note that a lot of this stuff that we are talking about was often addressed in 2nd...

Handling and Adjucating on the fly

Awesome. Sounds like you are getting a lot of mileage out of your character. And from my perspective, your DM's doing a great job. Also, welcome to the boards.

    Stirges are a nightmare!

A fall of 6' likely harmless, yep. But I'd imagine they've fallen prone as a result. Though I love the imagery of swan-sized bat-critters crash-diving into characters (perhaps in slow motion, accompanied by classical music), I guess I'm gonna assume it was a design oversight and apply a free...
