    D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

Miss Imogen wants to leap over the balcony railing, onto the table and to the floor and run and pick up Kapalue, her dear sweet Weed, and hold him in her arms. That is what she wants. But she can't. Not yet. "Weed, protect yourself," she calls out, and lets fly two more arrows at the hag. Even...

D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

"You bet," Tommi says. "Just clearing out the basement so that it doesn't repopulate. I don't think this will take five minutes. If you want you can go up and start a kettle. But with what we've done, it makes sense to keep going, no?" The boy wipes his sleeve against his lower lip, thinking it...

(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

Reinvigorated (and grateful to the strike team he has assembled), the Colonel again tries to shock the man-mountain in front of him. This time he connects, sending the giant staggering back. He strides forward. "Me!" he shouts. "Take on me!" Move 10' to CV56, around the perimeter of the giant...

(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

The Colonel is worried for Donnell, but he knows the lad can hold up. He continues his approach to the keeper, and braces himself, lightning dancing on his fingertips. He reaches out, to allow the discharge, but fails to connect. He jockeys for a better position, frustrated at his inability...

    D&D (2024) So Class Complexity...

ha -- thanks. I think so much of it is subjective, that I didn't want to distract from my main point. I mean, round-by-round a fighter is much more complex than a warlock (and TWF is going to increase that complexity in 2024 by all accounts.). But at character gen, a fighter is low complexity...

    D&D (2024) So Class Complexity...

Complexity measures many things. Three things it could measure, for which each class could have different answers, would be (a) complexity at character development/early levels (b) strategic complexity (choices made at long rest or at level-up) (c) tactical complexity (choices made...

(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

I wanted to be closer, but with the diagonal, and squeezing by Donnell, I didn't think I could justify it.

(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

The Colonel's first instinct is to deal with the Ape in front of Donnell and Doc. He barely notices the apes' keeper weeping in the middle of the room. The Colonel Maneuvers himself around Donnell, and when he has access, he sends a charge of electricity through the remaining simian. The...

D&D (2024) Why is Ritual Caster gated?

What abuse to you think this prevents? Why are you reluctant to leave it in?

D&D (2024) What mastery should the sap/blackjack have?

Here's a discussion from days gone by (pre-2024) about this issue, with various suggestions on implementing changes that would impact rogue design chocie without increasing their overall power. Of the weapon masteries, I'd say sap is best.

D&D General Shillelagh on a Longbow?

True Strike is a spell attack, and so can't benefit from Extra Attack; also it doesn't work for opportunity attacks. Shillelagh changes the nature of a weapon, and can benefit from Extra Attack and can do opp attacks. They are differently powerful, suited for different builds.

D&D (2024) Shillelagh, Staff and PAM

It's absolutely an interpretation. I have no inside information, but I remain certain that this is both the intent and whatever the sage advice/other clarification will decide. Yes -- that's why I said "(scaling)".

D&D (2024) Shillelagh, Staff and PAM

I am 100% confident that the PAM attack remains 1d4. What Shillelagh does will be to let you add your ability modifier (WIS for Shillelagh) to the bonus action attack. So with Shillelagh and PAM, your main attack is 1d8 (scaling)+WIS, PAM lets you do 1d4+WIS. Extra attack and the q'staff's...

D&D (2024) Why is Ritual Caster gated?

You know not everyone believes that, right? That there will be many, many characters for whom that's not true? Even in 2014, when Ritual Caster was more powerful, Magic Initiate was taken much more frequently, in my experience.

D&D (2024) Why is Ritual Caster gated?

PB= proficiency bonus. I had thought you don't need a spell slot now to cast a ritual -- wasn't that the point of removing the "can cast rituals" ability? Do you have a reason to believe that they've kept it this way?
  17. Kobold Stew

D&D (2024) Why is Ritual Caster gated?

I think this is mistaken. A non-caster can take this feat, and take PB first-level rituals, and have them from any list. Additionally, they can swift-cast one of them per long rest. That's strong, and add in the +1 ASI, it's good. A caster can also take this feat. For them, the two free spells...

D&D (2024) Why is Ritual Caster gated?

Adapting the feat to an Origin feat is easy: just remove the +1 ASI. Everything else can remain the same.

    D&D (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

I'm in for 2024, but I do understand. Have you ever looked at Shadow of the Demon Lord (a Kickstarter game form 2015?) It does great things in terms of showing the benefits of having standard levels. The resulting system allows great combos; cool subclass systems, and makes races/species a lot...
