I scanned and printed off the 2-page tile map from the back of the DMG. I placed them both in sleeves, and I draw on them with dry erace markers.
Both sheets together can generaly make any sized room I want. I use maps for combats only, so I don't need to build an entire dungeon out of tiles...
If I had to put Dwarves in a mountain range, it'd have to be the Rockies. I can't look out my window without seeing them and immagining dwarves mining them for... *shrug* who knows what.
Alternately, in game, I've NEVER used mountains to describe where any dwarf lived. In my little fantacy...
Mine too... and my players stop and talk about tactics every single round. WHen I sit and think about how my 3.x Combats went, I NEVER want to go back.
As far as running out of encounter/daily powers... there WEREN'T any in 3.x at all, so it makes a HUGE difference especially when there's no...
I reccomend TOON the Cartoon RPG by SJ Games
Its fast, easy and you can make it as goofy or easy going as you want, and your players can do almost anything they want.
I'm pretty easy going when it comes to what my players can and can't come up with.
There was this one time though that they were sent back in time to do a quest, then wanted to buy the land that Waterdeep was going to be built on and have it set up in such a way that they'd "inherit" waterdeep...
Hmm... only yesterday did I mention this as a way to help "recharge abilities" and today there is a full worked out list of cool things to do with reward cards.
I love ENworld!
Reward Cards usable once each per game session
Mmyep
"You may use this card when X happens:
Recharge 1 encounter power
OR when Y happens:
Recharge 1 daily power"
X/Y = roll a natural 20, Use an action point, Roll max damage on all dice, Make DM laugh, Buy DM a pop, Buy the DM a beer...
I'm glad I orchistrated the total and complete destruction of everything cool in FR in my last big campaign before 4E. I don't have to worry about what happened, I know... I "wrote it myself".
On a side note, isn't it funny how in the FR campaign setting even Elminster doesn't like the new...
I cheat all the freaking time. From die rolls to NPC actions. If I want a player to feel pain... my roll is high enough to hit. If I want a pc to survive, "Oh damn, a natural 1".
I don't know why I even roll dice any more.
but seriously, I roll out in the open. Sometimes I tip the dice to a...
GURPS: Yeah, I couldn't get into this one... at all, no matter how hard I tried. Maybe it was the math, maybe it was the GM, maybe its just me but I don't like this game.
FUDGE: Just like GURPS, but with no rules... hooray!
Toon: Tried running this one, and loved the concept, but maybe a...
I hand pick every peice of gold, Treasure, scroll, spell, and lootable peice of scenerey (My players enjoy looting everything thats not both nailed down and on fire).
It makes for hard prep, but fun games.
Friends, Girlfriend, Friends girlfriends, Strangers, that one guy on the bus, That one guy I hate, Random people who want to join, random people who don't want to join, That guy I leant money to... etc... etc...
My PC group consists of two Tieflings, an Eladrin, two Dragonborn and a human.
My players seem to be loving the new races, and they fit right in. Sure, flavor-wise, ret-conning them in was a little lame, but when you ignore the fact that they "Just appeared from nowhere" they take their place...
