D&D 5E Which monsters have the most exciting powers?

I'm interested to hear more about what you're getting at here.

D&D 5E Which monsters have the most exciting powers?

Good call. I love the fear it invokes when the DM rolls to see which ray it's going to be. The 4th ed one was particularly cool, as it zapped a random ray at anyone who started their turn near it. 5th ed kind of carried that across with the legendary eye rays, I think.

D&D 5E Which monsters have the most exciting powers?

Which monsters have the most exciting attack powers? From any edition really. I'd like to compile a list of cool monsters powers that I can draw from when customising 5th edition monsters on the fly. For example, I recently ran a 4e adventure with a drow priestess who could transfer damage...

    Revisiting NPCs

How strange. I came to this forum to post a very similar question, but Greg got there first! :) (I also liked Welsea, for what it's worth)

    Moonsea Maps

As far as I'm aware, the last official maps of the Moonsea can be found in the 4th Edition Forgotten Realms campaign guide (very low detail), and the adventure "Monument of the Ancients" from Dungeon 170 (high detail, but only shows a portion of the northern coast and a map of Phlan). I used the...

Sword Coast Legends is not D&D

Multiplayer turn-based games are rarely very popular, especially when they're designed to support more than two players. If they want to appeal to more than just the TRPG crowd, it sort of has to be real-time.

D&D 5E Does anyone actually track rations?

I have players that actually get real-life grumpy if I even mention the word encumbrance. Buying rations is fine, but only in the sense of "okay, you need to spend 10 gold each for supplies to and from the dungeon". Tracking rations by day isn't really bothered with. I would track supplies and...

RPG Evolution: Will LEGO Ever Replace Miniatures?

The construction set models are about 2 inches tall - so, a little under twice as big as normal miniatures. Here's a construction video for one of the Walking Dead sets: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf9KguSj4RY

RPG Evolution: Will LEGO Ever Replace Miniatures?

McFarlane Toys' Game of Thrones brick construction sets are looking pretty sweet. That said, if they're anything like the Walking Dead sets, they'll be too fiddly for use at the table and will slay your savings.

Perkins' Foreword From OUT OF THE ABYSS

"I call my style of writing Fantastique, and it can be anything from Alice in Wonderland to Moby Dick." The Clive Barker Interview, by Mike Lackey, Marvel Age no.107, December 1991 Alice in Wonderland has been cited as a source of inspiration for dozens of films and tv shows, from Lost to the...

    D&D 5E What's your Master Villain like?

My favourite villain was the shadowy leader of a circle of assassins that worked as "troubleshooters" for the realm. One of the PCs joined this secret order early on in the campaign, and for literally years of real-life play, he worked his way up the ranks by performing secret hits between...

    D&D 5E New DRAGON+?

They're giving away one of the season 3 Adventurers League adventures in this issue ("Harried in Hillsfar", which debuted at GenCon). Unfortunately, the link takes me to an appendix of modifying Backgrounds (perhaps a page from Out of the Abyss?). Hopefully will be sorted soon...

D&D 5E citadel of the planes - thoughts?

I'd be all over a campaign set in this place. It would be cool to start the PCs as custodians of the citadel, perhaps caretakers for some unknowable planar being. I love weird adventures like that.

New D&D Movie To Go Ahead - Produced By Lego Movie's Roy Lee

I think a good D&D movie should strike a slightly irreverent tone: serious threats and lots of action, but with snappy dialogue and plenty of laughs. "Joss Whedonesque", basically. The comics did quite a good job, I think. Good luck for this one. You never know! :)

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

Thank you! I keep telling myself I should pick it up again, as nowadays I only ever post once every two or three months. Adding a button to filter by tag should be easy. I'll try to put one in over the weekend.

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

Throughout its lifespan, there was so much talk about how to shorten the length of combat in 4E, but really, the focus should've been on how to make those combats more exciting. If you present a bunch of boring enemies, you get an hour-long slogfest. If you get a good mix of enemy types, combat...
