D&D 5E 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

Eh, I'm asking for more than that. I'm asking for it to be frequent enough that it doesn't feel like "a bone or two."

D&D 5E 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

The fourth-largest city in the country just basically voted that I shouldn't be allowed to use a public restroom without risk of assault and/or arrest. Yeah, I think we need to talk more about this stuff in basically every medium.

D&D 5E Do you find Fantasy Grounds just too much of an investment?

Yeah... FG's price point is a little... painfully high.

Which is a statement that really ought to be on par with "gay and trans people exist" in terms of how controversial it is.

D&D 5E 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

This. This is Truth. With the addendum that media - and D&D - frequently show straight cis people. Is my existance somehow more worthy if controversy because I am trans? Is my love life more worthy of controversy because I am with another woman? Or, when we hide our gays, are we just catering...

D&D 5E 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

What people are asking for is that other groups be treated the same as cisgender straight folks. Adventures have NPCs that are blatently identified as cis (pretty much anyone with a detailed description) and straight (anyone with an opposite-sex partner, spouse, or lover). If you refuse to have...

A'ight. So small disappointment on top of overall delight on how that was handled. So, on the whole, great job.

Huh. I'm satisfied. Actually... I'm delighted. Well done. Question. Options are allowed. What's the rule on human bladesingers and gnome battleragers?

D&D 5E 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

Should we? Should we ever be satisfied with our growth as individuals and as a subculture? Or should we always aim to do better, to be better? I know which of those I prefer.

D&D 5E 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

Should I talk about giants now? I'm going to talk about giants now. So... my current D&D campaign is set in a world that's a mashup of Mystara and Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved (I wanted to catch hints of the various things D&D has been and inspired, and if you ask me you can't bring up the d20...

D&D 5E 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

It's been challenged. Repeatedly. The challenges were wrong, and so are you. And your repeated statements of "we're not supposed to go into this" while you continue to go into it read like a blatant effort at getting the last word. "I'm going to repeat that we're not supposed to talk about this...

D&D 5E 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

That's... pretty much the entire argument I've been trying to make in a nutshell, yes. :) We can't make things better until we understand both what is wrong and why it's wrong.

D&D 5E 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

Zero of the words you just said are actually true, because it doesn't take rampant misogyny or anything that would actually hold up in a discrimination case in court to make a space or field unwelcoming to women, or even to actively drive them out of it.

D&D 5E 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

I don't think that Seraph is making the argument that Western civilization is some sort of bogeyman. I know I haven't made that argument. The argument she is making - one which can be backed up by simply looking at a map - is that the evils committed by Western European civilization are...

D&D 5E 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

This right here. If WotC is going to be inclusiveness, it has to be inclusive. Not just allow us to add inclusive ideas with our interpretation of vague terminology in the modules - actually be inclusive. Especially with AL modules. AL doesn't allow editing of modules, so that whole stack of...

D&D 5E Bladesinger tank!? Madness, or crazy like a fox?

You can, for two encounters a short rest, get unparalleled armor class. Once you get the ability to burn off spell slots for damage mitigation, you can take hits well (if very expensively). But you can't cast Counterspell and Shield in the same round, which leaves you vulnerable to Con-save...

New SCAG Info: Someone Got The Book

I tend to announce the AC the monster hits too. It feels more right to me... the character is a trained adventurer; they would generally know if their spell would be able to deflect the blow or not. Then again, for that very reason, I tend to err in the direction of giving too much information...

D&D 5E 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

I honestly don't have many. Nature vs. nurture is a fairly complex issue, and I'm not entirely sure it will ever be completely resolved scientifically. What I do know is that there are measurable differences between gender-male and gender-female brains, and that trans individuals' brains far...
