Ok. Disregard the irrelevant portion for your statement. The rest can be applied to other parts of the thread.

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

If fantasy races don’t have niches You also cannot play against type. Every group is equally skilled in the same areas and are on average as strong smart as slow as anyone else? What is the choice of race, species or folk even about. Really, when you cannot have a game with meaningful...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

If they leave the old stuff alone, whatever. If it is one way in one book and a different way in another, no skin off my teeth. I can buy what suits me. If they go all in with all products, I am gonna buy less. The game is still going to sell but it would be really sad fiction if we can’t...

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

Sure. Bad guys can only be pseudo European. Yet Look at the 5e players with backgrounds. There is a player character, presumably a hero, wearing the same. So it can only go one way? Further, the hobgoblins are smart and disciplined. They are cool. They happen to be militant conquerors...

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

Ok I gotta ask. So the hobgoblin has presumably western weapons. I dunno. Maybe not. But armor more similar to a samurai. It does not look like any known cultural group or none of us would sleep at night! It has a hairy hide and blue nose maybe brick red skin and jagged teeth. So this...

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

So there are several here who argue having an evil group of beings—-humanoids—-is unacceptable as this has too many parallels with real world marginalizing real groups of people. Any skin tone of such a foe if not clearly “Caucasian” or “white” or whatever maps too closely to people that have...

Wow. I always read that as ‘yellow’ or ‘red’ as primary colors. And the tan or brown of dwarves being more like people who are darker in complexions than say most Northern European. If I am right, does that change things? I think it does.

No, I hear you. I do not think the villains look like any cultural group of humans in particular. Some may have a feature in common. You have light or dark skin I suppose. However the inky black of a moonless night and green gray is not a hue I have encountered. What Tolkien spoke of is his...

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

It’s probably a good time to realize that even if there was unintended racist stuff in the subconscious of the author, not all of his ideas need to be jettisoned. I have played for decades and assumed initially that orca were piglike (porcine?) in terms of their visages. Monstrous compendium...

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

I don’t care what you call it. I own most of the first edition modules. Look at their covers. Choose any of the early drow modules. The foundation of the race...it’s origin

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

Beat me to it. First, the drow are the “inky black of a moonless night” back to their origin. They have been drawn with sometimes red eyes and white hair. I have never seen anyone resembling that irl. Duergar are gray. Goodly svirfneblin are earth tones. I dunno. Does not remind me of...

There were half Orcs likely at the Prancing Pony and some orcs were thought to have been crossed with humans.

Holy Moses! It’s not enough to be a good business providing good service. You also have to be politically active or you’re hosed? What if I agree with a part of a movement and not another? Just banned? When we stop be able to get the things we want I suppose we will take notice.

    D&D 5E Lessons learned

So it happened again! In another thread I talked about the power of war domain clerics and was leaning toward playing one. But I just could not get a mental picture of him...I knew I wanted to leverage great weapon master. I knew I wanted to be in melee. I liked the damage etc. but it did...

That’s not a silly name! Once a sig other Of a player went with something like Sir Tomato nose poopy face. My friend, the DM should have nixed that. Big difference :)

I am with you. Silly names sort of messes with my immersion. The comedy I enjoy is usually organic. Like a halfling pushing someone off a bridge in a fight or whatever usually gets some laughs.
