I did over 30 hours of Character Creation at GenCon 2012 for WotC. So it is possible. But I agree, not probable.

ASIDE: I think the question should be more Simulation vs Story. It's always a Game. I think D&D has always been the best of both worlds. It falls squarely in the middle with enough wiggle-room that those that want more story can get enough, and those that want more rules can focus on that...

I disagree with everyone that disagrees with me. I did not give picking a lock as an example. You can't take 20 on climbing a mountain, but you can take 20 on baking a cake. It removes the randmoness for those checks, yes. It doesn't remove randomness from the game because you don't use it for...

Not a bad idea, but I think they did this so that some classes or backgrounds wouldn't end up with many more skills than others.
