My games go exactly like Sigma. I've also found that those fights that are just a mass amount of kobolds are easier to run if average damage is used. And I have also rolled to keep things interesting. Or if I'm just bored and want to roll.

People who were interested in D&D Next already have the rules for free. They just aren't with fancy graphics and art. I've been playing a campaign since they released the beta download. So giving away the character creator for free isn't that far-fetched.

We have different opinions then. I spent way more on 2nd edition books than $300. $300 for all of 4e has been a bargain basement price for me. Plus I've gotten Dragon and Dungeon during that time.

I don't understand the resistance to monthy paying for the online stuff. In the example above, if I buy 3 Module activation WITHOUT book purchases in a year, that's going to be $67.50. If I have to pay $5 a month for all content for a year, I pay $60.00 I'll take the cheaper monthly fee please.

Does spreading proficiencies out to 2 levels solve the problem? How many levels do you feel would make proficiencies equal?

EDIT: Found my answer in the multiclass section. Seems a fix would be to go by class level, no? So a 19Bard/1Fighter doesn't gain a +6 to CON & STR rolls as well as INT & CHA.
