D&D 5E Short rest house rule

I've had issues with short rests in my campaign as well. I hate the 1 hour timeframe because it creates an argument in my group every time the topic of taking a rest comes up. Even though as DM I'm not involved in these arguments, they still waste my time and annoy me. I decided to house rule...

D&D 5E First TPK Players got frustrated

As a DM myself, I have some issues/questions about this, some of which I see have already been asked. 1. If the PCs bypassed the rooms full of Kobolds, how did the Kobolds know they were there? 2. If the kobolds were just sitting in their rooms, how did they communicate with the kobolds in the...

D&D 5E Poll: Is it rude for a sidelined player to leave the session?

I voted "Depends". I would say it's only rude if the character in question was supposed to be sidelined for just a brief time. If the character is likely to be sidelined for an extended period of time, then why shouldn't the player go see a movie with his girlfriend?

D&D 5E Do You Conduct AAR's After Each Session?

After every session? Oh lord no, that sounds horrible. My players have no trouble expressing their distaste for something anyway. No need to go looking for more criticism, I get enough of it already 😄

D&D 5E Do you want psionics in your D&D?

Interesting, I had no idea that series was inspired by a D&D campaign. I don't recall alot of D&D references in it, but it's been a long time since I've read those books.

Works pretty well for Raymond Feist's Magician series too.

D&D 5E adventurers in your world: common or rare?

I'm running a campaign in Forgotten Realms right now, only because WOTC has no other settings for 5E. In my game, low level adventurers (also known as "Monster Chow") are pretty common. After all, monsters in dungeons have to eat something. Competent, mid to high level adventurers are...

D&D 5E Do you want psionics in your D&D?

I think the other reason I hate Vancian Magic and prefer psionics is because when I play a psionic character, I feel like my character has a unique or at least unusual talent. Magic seems like just a bunch of rote memorization to me, no talent involved. It feels like "Ok, so to cast Fireball I...

D&D 5E Sidelining Players- the Good, the Bad, the Ugly, and the Poll

Agreed, there can never be too much Nic Cage, only too little!!

D&D 5E What Makes a Good Urban Adventure?

I love all kinds of adventures: wilderness hexcrawls, dungeon delves, urban. I am preparing to run my group through an urban adventure currently, and here are a few challenges that might come up: 1. Homogeneous enemies. Let's face it, it would be very bizarre for a Beholder or Dinosaur or Lich...

D&D 5E Sidelining Players- the Good, the Bad, the Ugly, and the Poll

As the OP pointed out, sometimes bad things happen to player characters. Sidelining a player temporarily because of some effect on their character that will eventually wear off is fine, though that should be explained to the player. Sidelining the player for an extended period of time because...

    Ah gotcha. I understand now.

D&D 5E Do you want psionics in your D&D?

I'm really not sure where you see that "justification" is needed from WOTC. Psionics is a creative enterprise they wish to embark on and as the development team they have every right to do so. No justification is needed at all. Some people like it and some people don't, and I get that. But in...

D&D 5E Do you want psionics in your D&D?

Well, if you're trying to balance psionics against magic your first issue is that magic itself is horrifically unbalanced. Casters always dominate play, and have since I first started gaming back in 2nd edition. I've never seen a campaign that wasn't dominated by the full casters in my lifetime...

D&D 5E Do you want psionics in your D&D?

The reason I love psionics is because I've always hated magic from a fluff perspective but I've always felt compelled to play casters because pure martials are horrible in D&D. Psionics gave me an out. I could play someone who had cool powers instead of the uber lame Harry Potterish gibberish...

D&D 5E Eldritch Knight, the reimagining - cantrip warrior!

I also agree that Evocation is a bad choice for the EK. Actually it's difficult for me to think of a worse school. Transmutation, Divination, Conjuration, even Necromancy are all much better choices. The developers really didn't think things through when they chose Evocation as one of the two...

You mean Wal-Mart took over the retail market in Faerun too?? Damn they are unstoppable.

D&D 5E Do you want psionics in your D&D?

The Mystic isn't to my liking either to be honest, and the major problem with the Mystic is it tries to fit caster and martial into one "do it all" class. It really needs to be broken up into a martial "psychic warrior" class, a caster "psion" class and possibly a rogue type "soulknife" class...
