Well I finished up Fringe today. In the end, the whole was greater than its parts. Though the first two seasons (and season 3 by association) truly standout, imo. It featured great entertaining characters, awesome acting, and it got to go out on-purpose instead of by cancellation or losing...

As the least interesting man in the world, I don't always read the News...but when I do, I read the EnWorld front page...stay informed my friends.

I just made my way to watching Fringe on Netflix. It was always on my list of things to check out, as a number of my friends with similar show tastes have recommended it to me for a while now. Loving it thus far (still watching season one).

A lot of stories or settings can flip from one side to the other within the space of a paragraph. It's the razor's edge between "science!" as explanation and "mysteriousness!" as a foundation. A zero g knife fight will hit my brain as science fiction, but a knife fight where the combatants are...

And the odd Amoebic Factors...some of them can project tentacle-like pseudopods. And then there are always the lingering lurking bits of TITAN tech and exsurgent virus strains which could result in any number of tentacled horrors. Plus the ETI could very well be the Great Old Ones. And...

If you are paralyzed you are also Helpless. The description of that condition fills in some answers for you. When paralyzed, you are treated as prone for the purposes of the +4 to be hit, etc. Generally, Paralysis is a bummer of a condition :)

Eclipse Phase = my favorite hardish sci-fi transhuman setting. Star Wars = it's pretty much part of my DNA at this point. Warhammer 40k = it's such a gloomy kitbash of so many other settings. Rather than it being a deal breaker, it just makes me a happy camper. I'm also a fan of the tidbits...

Perhaps Nobilis style gaming could work? That can get super abstract, and it's diceless. You could have players that are the embodiment of Pi...trying to round off the corners of the multiverse. At any rate, there should be a lot less dice rolling and more far flung planning and crazy...

Hard to say. So many things can weigh in on license agreements, and the business side of the equation. Still, I thought Cam Banks et al. put forth a cool system. I've hacked parts of it into other games I own, and I've got other plans for it. Heck I suffered the slings and arrows of my game...

To be fair, very few games support investigation and mystery where their resolution hangs on the success or failure of a skill check. Stick to the rule of three, imo. Otherwise most games of Call of Cthulhu would fall apart, and that game is (or at least can be) all about investigation.

If it's not altering reality on a multiplanar level it's probably not challenging or interesting enough to a level 100 PC :-) I'd say pick the craziest most far flung idea that could go down in a game of Exalted...and then double that :-)

The set-up is the hardest bit. Get past that and it's good fun waiting to be had, imo. Large dogs, frisky cats and roving toddlers are the bane of Descent :-)

I wouldn't put too many hopes and dreams into wanting something like the OGL. The GSL is probably a better candidate for hanging hats on. And even that is sketchy until anyone sees an official document. So hopefully we will know Q1 2014 (Oct-Dec 2013) or Q4 2014 (Gen Con release).
