New PA podcast with some higher-level fighter details

That's just how those guys talk. They do it in the PATV stuff that they put out on their site.

Archer and Dual Wielder Specialties: What am I missing?

Okay so here is my two cents on the TWF mechanic. This is purely math and mechanics, I don't know crap about real sword fighting. In short: 1) crit chances don't matter for average dpr 2) similarly crit misses don't matter for average dpr 3) rounding error is at most 2 points of damage over...

    D&D 5E Ability Scores in 5e

if every stat got tested as much as wis and dex, then no stat would be a dumpstat and every character would have an achilles heel (I say that as a good thing).

New PA podcast with some higher-level fighter details

This was my thinking when I first listened to the podcast, but then I asked myself "what would they use them on if not warlord maneuvers?" My answer to that was that they would just have a shorter list of possible fighter maneuvers, but this just feels like a half-fighter half-warlord. If the...

    Fighter

There's nothing toolish about people having fun. If you were sitting at your home table with friends and they were all going on about how awesome the fighter was, you'd think the fighter was cool too. It's not as much about bandwagoning as it is about everybody enjoying themselves and nobody...

    D&D 5E Ability Scores in 5e

if something is targeting your mental stats then it probably falls under one of the following categories for saves: save with INT if you are being confused int lets you follow patterns and think your way out of a maze/puzzle save with WIS if you are being deceived wis lets...

    D&D 5E Ability Scores in 5e

I for one think it's a necessary change since rogues would be 6xMAD if they had to actually have the stats to be good at their multitude of skills. And since the dev team has set up the rogue to be the "best at skills" he needs to be damn good with his skills. Also, things like sneak, which is...

D&D 5E What Classes do you really want to see in D&D Next?

I like the idea of each class being a "best at" but I'm not sure if that would work for the three arcane spell casters that we currently have, despite the fact that I happen to think that they are all seeming very distinct and meaningful. Maybe I just don't have the imagination to come up with...

Sorcerers should use Con not Cha

I want to take what marty said and clip it. Instead of CHA being your projection of yourself on the outside world I would say that CHA is your projection of yourself The reason being for this is what if something were internally causing you to question yourself or take over you from the...

Should spellcasting classes get a choice of magic main ability mod?

you would have to be careful. I am of the belief that the classes should be balanced based upon what stat that they use, since each stat has its own uses outside of what it does for the class. You wouldn't want a wizard using dex or con for spells. Switching between the mental stats may prove...

    New Backgrounds/Specialities

I'd like to see a bit of a changed survivor specialty. I particularly love the diehard feats, because I think that they are thematically cool. I'd love to see a specialty that is built around or includes those feats and I think that survivor is the perfect one to include it. If the diehard feats...

    Fighter

I'd change it to say "when you hit" to keep it in line with other fighter CS abilities. Also, because it would make sense that if you made errant attacks that the enemy could finally slip out of the engagement.

New PA podcast with some higher-level fighter details

I just finished listening and I have to say that I really liked everything that I heard with one exception. I'm not sure how I feel about warlords getting cs dice. It seemed like that thing that made the fighter unique. I'd hate to see that get picked up by other classes and start making the...

    D&D 5E Ability Scores in 5e

I don't see a problem with a 6 str/int/cha thief I like int/dex for initiative I like splitting up more will saves but I understand why they didn't (it makes wizards really powerful if they metagame) rogue skill mastery needs to be lower (8 or 10 min before bonus) being MAD with 2 stats...

Character Creation Now Supported: Let's Make Some Characters!

the only thought that immediately occurred to me, viking, was that you're rogue-lock would do more damage by eldritch blasting every round than by rotating hide, eldritch blast, hide. that said if you can be hidden for the first round of combat you're going to ruin somebody's day.

    Character Sheets

yeah. I can make a 3e and 4e character in my head and just write it down on paper if other people need to see it. I've been playing dnd since I was about 10 so I've gotten pretty good at remembering stuff.

    Character Sheets

I've never used character sheets. In fact, until I read this I forgot that they existed. I'd be interested, however, in seeing how many people think character sheet design is important.

    Spiritual Hammer

The spell Spiritual Hammer seems to be very straightforward, but I have a question about multiple ones. Let's say I cast the spell twice, do I now have two hammers that I can move and attack with twice (once each) during each regular action I take in my following turns?

    Sorcerer vs Wizard

Okay so when it comes to spell points = spell level there are two things to consider: 1) the spell points cost per effect 2) the effect per casting time For example. Low level spells are more cost effective than higher level spells, but higher level spells do more damage per round. So if you...
