D&D 5E Great news on Skills

Instead of Gather Information or Streetwise for a skill why not Reconnassaince? Rogues would be better at it within an urban environment while a ranger would be better in a wilderness setting. Recon could have numberous uses while the others are more narrow in focus.

    Swath of Destruction

In 1e AD&D fighters could attack X number of times equal to their level against opponents of less than 1HD. In the D&D Cyclopedia fighters had the smash attack option. In 3e D&D it was cleave for fighters and 4e allows a fighter to cleave at-will. An agruement I've heard before is that fighters...

    D&D 5E D&D Next Ability Scores

Upgrade, fixed is my opinion. Use a feat, "improve ability" increases one ability score one point. Usable at "X" level. Cannot stack with the same ability but can use a feat for each ability score, so that's six feats total.

    Top 5 RPGs--Spring 2012

The reasons for why the companies receive the rankings they do vary. We can debate until the next age what causes a company's decline or rise. From my perspective this is what I would like to see, however, it has no bearing on sales of products or a company's bottom line: -When there's a new...

    Morrus on... Races

The difference between race and species is correct. Although you can have hybrids from the species. A cross between a donkey and a horse produces a mule. A tiger and lion hybrid is a tigon. Both examples are sterile so there's no offspring for such creatures. There are cross species...

    Why is there no dwarf-hate?

The DM from my first gaming group hated dwarves with a passion. When he started playing D&D his first character was a lawful good dwarf which died on the first encounter. Ever since he would play elves and if a dwarf died he would enjoy it. BTW, he would usually detest lawful good characters...

    looking for: intrigue at court

Delericho has made an excellent example! If I may add my 2 pfennigs worth, how about the neighboring nation having a faction intrigue in another nation's affairs? This could be done in such a way as the NN's king and most of his supporters are unaware of what is going on across the border...

GenCon Indy 2007, let's shake the male/female ratios--or not, they seem fine here ;)

This year was the 3rd time I've attended Gencon and the first time for my wife. I've gamed since 1981 but I've been on a gaming hiatus the last 4 years. This is due to my wife's wishes. Taking her to Gencon this year I hoped to expose her to how gamers represent a cross section of society...

RPGs & the Armed Forces - a liability?

I am currently in my 3rd enlistment in the military spreading my service over a 24 year period. During my 2 previous enlistments I have observed or played in several games. From what I can remember no one either encouraged or discouraged any of us from playing. The groups I became involved...

Cool things you remember from some setting of choice

An adventure setting that I still enjoy are the 2 villages in the Lendore series, Restenford and Garrotten. For small villages they add a lot of detail for the npcs but leave some areas undefined. What's interesting is there have been 2 sequels to the L1 module basing the adventures themselves...
