    D&D 5E Armor in D&DNext

Why do you think that Conan doesn't wear full plate? How many of the original Robert E. Howard Conan stories have you read? He wears heavy armour, including full plate, in an awful lot of them----Queen of the Black Coast, Black Colossus, The Scarlet Citadel, and The Hour of the Dragon, just to...

    D&D 5E Armor in D&DNext

Actually, it is most emphatically not an awesome possibility. I'm still very firmly of the opinion that Fighters should have the highest AC (as the developers' articles and columns have stated), and that that high AC should be achieved primarily through wearing heavy armour. I disagree...

    The Playtest Fighter

For me, the biggest issue is that he very urgently needs better armour. He went down too fast, even with all those hit points. Heavy armour just needs to be better, period.

    Probably.

    Compiled possible character sheet errors?

Never mind. I figured it out.

    First Impressions?

That is delightful! I love it. It's probably too much to hope for that something that awesome would make it into the final rules, though...

    First Impressions?

Also, how is the Cleric of Moradin getting such a high AC?

    First Impressions?

It looks like a depressing return to 3e's dominance of the Armour Class stat by characters relying on light armour + Dex Mod, while heavy armour wearers get left out in the cold. What happened to promises that the Fighter (usually a heavy armour wearer) would have the best Armour Class?

    First Impressions?

My first impression after an initial read-through is that heavy armour seems gimped. In fact, ACs seem too low in comparison to some of the slightly tough monsters in the bestiary. This causes me to worry that having magic armour will be an absolute must when dealing with more powerful...

    When Fantasy Racism gets stupid

I don't play D&D to be subjected to someone's notion of incisive sociological commentary. I'm comfortable with imaginary monsters in an imaginary game representing pure, unmitigated evil. I don't see any parallels with real-world justifications for colonialism or genocide. Further, I resent...

    My grievance with D&D races

For some people, the game just isn't enough of an escape from their mundane life unless they can play something totally off-the-wall--a complete and utter radical departure from the geeky burger-flipper they are in their humdrum daily lives. I love running human-only games. I once ran a GURPS...

Obscure elements of D&D you would love to rescue

I'd like to see the old 1e feature of Field/Full plate armour in which it provided a small measure of DR to the wearer. I want the best mundane armours to have access to some special features like that and would rather not see such things restricted only to magical armours.

If WotC deliver on all their promises...

This is true. For the most part, I think it's the recently-jilted diehard 4e fans who might feel more than a little betrayed.

D&D 5E How are people currently feeling about 5e?

I've liked everything I've read about it so far, and am extremely optimistic at this point. This will paint me as a shallow individual, but for me, the "make or break" factor will be the armour choices and how effective heavy armour is represented as being in the game.

    D&D 5E The Next Generation

Wow. I don't know where to begin. What a monumentally offensive, self-centered, and hubris-laden original post... I'm in my early thirties and am just barely old enough to have cut my teeth on 1st edition AD&D, which is by far my favorite edition of the game. I suppose that I qualify as "old...

Fewer deeper archetypes or the kitchen sink

A bit disappointing? I would find that monumentally disappointing and would seek another group ASAP!

    Flatter Ability Score Bonuses

I think I'd like 5e to use the ability score bonus progression from Castles and Crusades. That one satisfies me the most, keeps the power-crawl to a minimum, and still feels like D&D.

    Fighter design goals . L&L April 30th

As others have said, it will be fine if those other classes are just themes/backgrounds of the Fighter class. Additionally, those other classes have other areas in which they have the opportunity to shine, while the Fighter focuses on combat. Fighting should be owned by the Fighter.

    Fighter design goals . L&L April 30th

So you'd prefer that the Wizard get to be THAT much better than everyone else? 'Cause that's what it sounds like you want in this statement: I'd rather see a sort of hybrid 1e/4e kind of Fighter...

    D&D 1E The indispensible 1e

I want to add that I liked this, too. First edition AD&D has such an exciting and evocative atmosphere for me; sometimes I wonder if we really needed a second edition...
