Which PrCl would you never want in your game? (part 1 - DMG)

What's the prohibited schools? Do double check your math, it's wrong is a few places. For the MT vs. Full Caster + Cohort comparison, you've given no reasons to think the MT is in anyway better. The reasons you keep reiterating don't make sense to me. How is a MT better at metamagic than a full...

Which PrCl would you never want in your game? (part 1 - DMG)

Having re-read the leadership/cohort rules, it looks correct. At level 6 (when he gained the leadership feat), his leader score would be 6 + 2 Cha -2 Familiar = 6, allowing him to attract a 4th level character. (Assuming he summoned his familiar at 1st level or any other point before getting...

Which PrCl would you never want in your game? (part 1 - DMG)

Paying for the privilege of copying spells from others books (for common spells) is pretty well laid out in the rules. Finding someone with the spellbook shouldn't be any harder than finding someone with a particular magical item or scroll you want to purchase. I think at this point, the...

    Improved Trip Question

Ok, weird writing of the rules. You don't incur an AoO if you trip with a weapon (see below). Not you don't incur an AoO if you trip with a weapon designed for tripping.

    Improved Trip Question

Sorry, missed that section section. So you can't attack with unarmed attack as a weapon to trip, even if it's counted as a weapon. *stops head from spinning* Ok, I've think I've got it. Just weird rules.

AoO and Readied Actions (Rules Question)

Spellcasting is just an example of AoO causing action, I'm not concerned with it in particular. I don't want the character to lose his action. I just don't want the character to able to use their action to get effectively double AoO on someone. Sometimes taking an AoO to get in a better...

    Improved Trip Question

Tripping with a weapon does not provoke an AoO. It's quite clear in the PHB. I don't know how clear/accurate the SRD is on the matter though. I'm pretty sure someone's unarmed attack (including a monk) with Improved Unarmed Strike counts as a weapon for that purpose (not 100% sure on the this bit).

Which PrCl would you never want in your game? (part 1 - DMG)

Full caster + cohort easily does more than the MT. The only room to doubt that is dealing with having spread the resources between caster and cohort. Without the cohort, it's much harder. You can't as easily say well the full caster has more spells per day for example. Even without the cohort...

Which PrCl would you never want in your game? (part 1 - DMG)

It would have cost him 4500 gp to purchase the spells and copy them into his book (assuming he found somebody with the spell in their book, and didn't scribe them from scrolls). I agree it would have been nice for him to tally them up, but he left quite a bit of gold, and didn't acquire very...

    Improved Trip Question

*rereads trip entry in PHB* Wow, if you use a weapon to trip there's no AoO. Must be using this against my players *evil grin*.

    Improved Trip Question

While we're on Improved Trip, any idea on why the wording on the attack is weird? The whole, you get an attack as if you hadn't used your attack for the trip attempt thing. Why word it like that, and not just a "make a free attack"?

Which PrCl would you never want in your game? (part 1 - DMG)

I think not owning armor would more an issue than being strong enough to move decently in it. :D

AoO and Readied Actions (Rules Question)

I certainly think he's capable of taking the AoO. I think it's just a question of whether he can take it without losing his spell.

Which PrCl would you never want in your game? (part 1 - DMG)

I think it's quite clear (at least to some of us) that the Wizard with Cleric cohort is more generally capable than the Wizard/Cleric/MT. How hard do you think it'd be able to demonstrate this without using the leadership feat? Being able to add a cleric cohort makes the comparison very easy...

AoO and Readied Actions (Rules Question)

That's what I thought the rules would be for it. Just doesn't make sense to me. You're getting the AoO because the casting (or whatever action) leaves you vulnerable for a moment, if you happen to be attacking them anyway when they become vulnerable, it shouldn't be any worse. A bonus to-hit...

    Improved Trip Question

Ah, exactly the sort of difference I was looking for, thanks. I've recently started DM'ing 3.5 for the first time (most of my experience has been 2nd ed), and I'm still digging out rules every-time somebody does a special maneuver. Only seen trip used by Dire Wolves, and it was certainly...

AoO and Readied Actions (Rules Question)

If I ready an action to attack somebody when they do an action which provokes an AoO, do I get both my readied attack and the AoO? For example, I'm standing next to spell caster. I ready an action to attack him when he casts a spell. He starts casting, my readied action goes off and he provokes...

    Improved Trip Question

I'm trying to understand why Improve Trip is different from the other Improved Combat Maneuver feats. All except trip, give you +4 to the check and lets you avoid the AoO when starting the maneuver, but improved trip gives you additional bonus of getting that free attack in. All the feats have...
