D&D 5E can warlocks be good guys?

I agree 100% (the term is bolded in the PHB, not for added emphasis) - in terms of the 5e "default" setting, paladins power comes from their oaths, not gods - that was the point of that quotation. YMMV according to your campaign setting. In my longest running setting, the gods have no direct...

D&D 5E can warlocks be good guys?

The PHB default for paladins vis-a-vis gods & magic is spelled out in the sidebar on Magic on p. 205:

D&D 5E Warcaster, polearm master and learning to love the optimizing?

I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed some fluff somewhere. 1) But if you buy that extrapolation, (I do not) can the Spellcaster cast a touch spell (Shocking Grasp, say) at an opponent 10' away that provoked an AoO? 2) If you answer "yes" (by 'channeling the spell through her weapon') why...

D&D 5E Warcaster, polearm master and learning to love the optimizing?

Call me dense, but what fluff indicates that the spell is channeled through your weapon?

    D&D 5E Rules for Sunder

Is this an option for anyone, or only the Battlemaster? If for anyone, it should be workable; if for Battlemaster it should a) Use a Superiority Die (and specify what benefit the die provides), and b) use the same DC as all other Battlemaster Maneuvers. I know it may not intrinsically make sense...

D&D 5E Chucking daggers: how do we throw two?

You forgot the Dart :) Ranged Finesse (whether held or Thrown): STR or DEX, same ability used for attack & damage; can also be used to make melee attacks without being treated as an Improvised Weapon.

D&D 5E I thought that I had seen a Range limit to the sneak attack with the Ranged Weapon, 30 feet

As addressed in the Siege Weapons thread, Siege Weapons are neither Ranged Weapons, nor do the have the Finesse Quality, so no Sneak Attack. Some of them are listed as being capable of making a Ranged Weapon Attack, but that does not make them Ranged Weapons. See the Entry for Orc (MM p. 246)...

D&D 5E Racial Ability Score Mods

Not if you are using the Standard Array. If using random stat generation or a version of point buy that allows 17+, I would put a ceiling of 18 on non-standard attributes (for that race). For example, I would allow a starting Dwarf with a CON of 20, but not a CHA of 20. That would still allow...

    D&D 5E Siege weapons

As much as I usually agree with Paraxis, I disagree with his view of RAW on this one: By RAW Sharpshooter, Archery Style, etc... only apply to Ranged Weapons, not Ranged Weapon Attacks. Sharpshooter, for example, does not apply to a Thrown Melee Weapon, even though that is a Ranged Attack...

D&D 5E How lawyery do you get with Zone of Truth?

What about the guy with the high Deception skill :) It specifically covers "misleading others through ambiguity", perfect for being caught in a ZoT See, this is the part that confuses me. Either I'm not communicating clearly, or you're reading intent into posts that I'm not seeing. My guess is...

D&D 5E How lawyery do you get with Zone of Truth?

Then go for it! Second, I can tell them whatever I like. If I were to employ a zone of truth spell against the players, I would do so for the challenge it imposes on them. They would know it was cast because I would telegraph it - or outright tell them - you cannot lie. So you would run it...

D&D 5E I thought that I had seen a Range limit to the sneak attack with the Ranged Weapon, 30 feet

As much as I hate to admit it :) - I agree with Athinar's reading of Sharpshooter: The feat does not cancel out the Disadvantage for attacking at long range - the Disadvantage is never incurred in the first place. Therefore, anything that grants Advantage would apply. And I don't have a...

D&D 5E How lawyery do you get with Zone of Truth?

So do a great many DMs. Regardless of how you would play it, that seems to be your advice - which you repeat in general form at the end of your post... OK. What exactly does that have to do with our current conversation. I never stated my intent to do so. But the point in a mystery/investigation...

D&D 5E How lawyery do you get with Zone of Truth?

Woah, there Nellie, that's not my concern at all. I was addressing the problems created by Bawylie's house rule, and the reasons he felt they were necessary. Your contention that "if everyone agrees not to abuse the spell, then we don't have a problem" could just as easily apply to Bawylie's...

D&D 5E How lawyery do you get with Zone of Truth?

I would, too. But I would also be disappointed if, as a player, it were used against me (see below). A 2nd level spell that makes it impossible to be clever, cunning, or outright deceitful is a big detriment to a wide variety of character types. There are skills in the game that become...

D&D 5E Help new DM understand MM NPC Humaniod Stat Blocks

Welcome to ENWorld! Nope - you didn't miss anything. NPCs are created just like monsters. go wild. Do whatever tickles your funny bone - 10 hit dice, +2 proficiency, Spellcasting like a 15th lvl wizard, whatever. Use the guidelines to figure out the CR and go to town. NPCs are not built like...
