Need some ideas for low level characters to instantaneously travel long distances...

Sorry, I was just skimming. The heart of the arguement remains the same. Either don't manipulate events, or do... and if you do, how about a broken portal?

Need some ideas for low level characters to instantaneously travel long distances...

Wow... that's pretty crazy. In my first D&D game, I was told that my character was going to meet the party at a predetermined place. The leader of the party decided got sidetracked and she ended up flirting with an NPC... for two hours. I fell asleep. Not an auspicious start.

Need some ideas for low level characters to instantaneously travel long distances...

Frankly, I think that if you're introducing a new player to the game, their first experience shouldn't be sitting around for two hours watching everyone else play. That just sucks. So you have two options: 1) Bring your friend in on a different day. If the combat continues the way it sounds...

    Gods and Portfolios

Well, at least they're epic level checks. With an epic level slight of hand check, you could probably steal the sun... of course, it's an opposed check, so maybe not.

    Gods and Portfolios

Well, perhaps I'll do it with branding... Mask engineers the most intricate subtle plot against Cyric... so sucessfully that people start thinking, "When I think intrigue, I think Mask." Or something of the like...

    Gods and Portfolios

I'm working out a complicated plot in which Mask is trying to steal back the Intrigue portfolio from Cyric. I've got pretty much everything down except for the actual theft of it.

How do gods steal portfolios from one another?

    Cartography Skill?

If we're talking about areas that would take a very long time to measure... a section of a country, or a barony or such. Well, with pre-existing general knowledge... say 6-10 ranks of Know:Geo, I'd say that one could draw out a rough map that gave approximate distaces (perhaps in days of travel...

    Cartography Skill?

But probably a good number of years to survey. I understand the Knowlegde: Nobility and Royalty synergy bonus, but the "or Diplomacy" part of it makes me edgy. Mapmaking has little to do with etiquete and protocol, and much more to do with understanding the binary language of moisture vaporators.

    Uncanny Dodge and Run

I've always wondering about Uncanny Dodge and climbing a rope. I've seen it ruled both ways... I tend to rule against keeping the dex bonus, but if someone made a convincing arguement the first time it cropped up in a specific campaign, I might be more lax.

    A modest proposal

I was picturing a cross between Tom Clancy and Day of the Tentacle. Geopolitical machinations lead to war across space-time. I'm even thinking about using my Heroes of Battle a bit. Not too much, because I know that my people would tire of all-out war, ala fighting in enormous armies...

    A modest proposal

Mmm, shepard's pie! (The secret ingredient is shepards!)

    A modest proposal

I was just wondering how it worked out... I'm running two campaigns right now, and I'm considering having a quest where the characters in each campaign switch bodies with each other (one campaign is in Greyhawk, the other is in the Western Heartlands in FR), at first, as a curse, but then they...

    Nymph's Kiss and Arcane Spellcasting

Bah... that's what I figured. But why not ask people who really know their stuff?

    Paladin special mount ability switch

Take a look at the Vows from Book of Exalted Deeds. These (especially the big ones, Poverty and Nonviolence) show power tradeoffs for people who decide to forgo the power in which most people partake. Perhaps you could create a Vow of Servitude, wherein your Paladin trades the ability to...

    A modest proposal

Just as a slightly off-topic curiousity: (Based on the train of thought between the Marvel Universe and the D&D Universe) Have any of you DMs out there Portaled your party to a different campaign setting?

    Nymph's Kiss and Arcane Spellcasting

Does the +2 circumstance bonus on Charisma related checks given by the Nymph's Kiss feat from the Book of Exalted Deeds (pg 44) extend to a Bard or Sorcerer learning spells? i.e. Could a Level 4 Bard with Charisma 10 and Nymph's Kiss cast level 2 spells, or just the cantrips?

I need to fireproof my... uh.. ship.

A paraffin wax coating should give you an hour (to maybe 3 at the upper ranges) in the 300-500 degrees F range. (Depending on the amount and density of the paraffin). Wax is great for this purpose, because even when melted, it generally adheres to the surface to which it was applied, severely...

    Summons and Dispels

I just entered the constraints of their arguments into the Autocad of my mind's eye, and I was wondering if they perhaps saw it the same way.

    Summons and Dispels

I'm going to start by saying that I'm not going to come down on one or another side of the equation here. I will say, however, that: a) I am intrigued by the debate and b) I am a visual person So I see it this way. Correct me if I'm wrong: Hyp sees the Summoned creatures teathered to an...
