Melee + being able to pump one's own stats + healing + summoning + some blast spells + being able to blow up undead = scary. Fighting against a party of NPC clerics is the stuff of nightmares. Especially if they have Death Touch *shiver*.

I'd say equalize them as best you can and then start thinking about a PrC... or even better, decide on a PrC now, and then fulfill the prereqs as you equalize them. Alternatively, start thinking about the Ascetic feats from Complete Adventurer... bit of a pickle though.

Actually, in a stage combat setting, Broadsword & Shield is much more dangerous than even Rapier & Dagger, Two-Handed Broadsword, or pretty much any combo I can think of other than Flail (Those are very unpredictable).

It really depends how you use it. Wood is light. I'd definately allow a whip and chair character.
