    question of evil

I always took it if something had the no dual nature feature then it could only be that alignment? I dunno if dragons have that. Id say unless said dragon did little in his life eventually it would strike out etc as some seemingly tame tigers etc do. I think being fairly intelligent as soon as...

12 part Adventure Path good for new DM/players?

I have subscribed to dungeon very recently purely for this adventure path in the savage tides. Never run a 1-20 adventure before or subscribed or bought many dungeon mags. I also bought back copies to 130 just to see. played the one in the depot with the gobbos last week, seemed to go well...

Simple but Effective Feats for a 1st-level Paladin

two paladins at 1st level in my 'knightly' campaign we started this week. I said anyone who takes mounted combat can have a light warhorse too start with. Both paladins and the party scout did. Whole thing is going to be quiet outdoorsy. First encounter the party saw a runaway horse about 500ft...

What level is appropriate to encounter save or die effects?

Agreed. when u start to get 5th level spells and equiv CR monsters it all gets a bit save or die. This is when the game falls over for me, and most of my group, above this level we just arent interested in playing any more. As we always start at first takes a while to get to this point JohnD

Cheapest way for casters to improve their AC

we just finished part 1 of a campaign where every character was a wizard specialist. they got to 9th level with only 1 character death and had maybe 4 or 5 +1 items, maybe 1 +2, each at the end. There armmour classes where consistently very good mage armour on at all times obviously shield as...

    Monster Manual IV thoughts?

me too. thought new stat blcok, and DC for knowledge is great. Like the little maps they added. revisit of some old monsters with class levels and such. Can finally use my blood hulk mini for wot its meant to be. Just like lots of stuff in it, and as abonus seemed to be more lovel CR critters...

    Roleplaying ('killer')in the news...

http://news.aol.co.uk/article.adp?id=20060725064509990001 brings back memories off a mass game of killer that spilled over into a cinema in my youth... dont recall players wearing the sort of get up shown in the picture in my day JohnD

How much damage does a dead black dragon do

do they have to stay close? i know they must be summoned close. dragon has higher speed than hippogriffs so they really kept it at bay rather than pursuing. i will CTB JohnD

How much damage does a dead black dragon do

wasnt aware of those weight/damage rules. ta for heads up. bit of a tricky example example cos halfling is quite big for a small creature and elf quite small for a medium creature. things in a size category bigger tend to have up to 8 times the mass or thereabouts. 360lb half orc can easy...

    Gut-feelings and new players

It does 1. Another 1 who phoned me today and said he'd had enough 2. Less and less we have contact with more players who wanna join, so i guess i should boot captain chaos b4 who does stuff to put the others off. Its wierd you meet no new roleplayers for ages then D3 come along at once!*...

How much damage does a dead black dragon do

How much does the dead dragon weigh?? dont think this matters. large creatures have no problem at all grappling medium creatures (which is a whole other arguement), for example the hippogriffs in the combat could easily pick up the two dragons trogoldyte allies max of 5 range increment is a...

How much damage does a dead black dragon do

In the end i just used the corpse to make a party wizard shift from the minor globe of invulnerability he was using, as the red dragon was hovering 450 feet above him at the time, so never got round to calculating an attack roll. Red Dragon has +9 ranged attack with the +20 from true strike he...

How much damage does a dead black dragon do

The light spell through the editions

Those were the days when no one played a cleric! In BD&D no spell bonus for wisdom either i recall so 1 spell at 2nd level was it. Compared to the lucky old magic user whose magic missile did d6+1 damage, enough to kill any 1st level pc....rambling off topic, sorry I always used to play clerics...

Everyone i currently game with I met as a gamer first and then became friend afterwards (to the extent of being best man and ushers at weddings and stuff). One i have known 21 years, another 18, both of whom i met at gaming clubs. Two others i met jointly about 3 years ago via uk.games.roleplay...

    More Balanced game

perhaps the party should start at 1st and not leap into 20th level? most rpg get very unwieldy at very high level./power settings tend to find D&D 3.5 gets very complex and unwieldy and people forget things at around 10th or so. JohnD PS average of 10d6 is 35

    Dire Tigers are real...

Yep. they had a discovery programme where they moved some threatened tigers from aisa to south africa in a large reserve. They became social/group hunters and developed sprinting hunts rather than pure tiger ambush. They actually started to hunt, by chasing down ostrich, which i think are...
