HBO to make George R.R. Martin' SoI&F into a series...

Yep. I've even remarked to others that Al got the Jamie Lannister treatment. As for the Martin Fanboys... The response at the ASOIAF board has been pretty positive. More than anything most of us are happy for George. Sure there are worries, but even if it turns out to suck, it won't diminsh...

HBO to make George R.R. Martin' SoI&F into a series...

This is exciting news. HBO has the ability to really do this right. Now, As I understand from reading George's Blog, and Parris's post is that nothing had been greenlit. In this case the option is the purchase of the rights. Nothing is assured of being made. Personally I emailed HBO...

Where to start with Charles de Lint?

DeLint is the GoH at a the local con this spring so I thought I should give him a shot, so I asked this same question, I was told to go with The Onion Girl. I'm hoping to get to it in the next month or two.

    The Thousandfold Thought rocks!

The plan is that there will be 8 books connected. The Prince of Nothing trilogy is done. Next up is the Aspect-Emperor which is slated to be part od a duology. After that there is going to be another trilogy. At least I think thats what the plan is. Last word I heard was that Bakker was...

    [Jan] What are you reading?

I finished up Dragon Avenger by E.E. Knight, book two in the Age of Fire cycle. This volume tells the story of Auron's sister Wistala. It seemed to me to have a more young adult feel than the first, although by the end of the book there certainly was a good amount of vengence being taken. I...

    [Jan] What are you reading?

I finished up the Star Trek novel The Final Reflection by John M. Ford. Really good book, in fact it was outstanding for tie-in fiction. A refreshing look (for 1984) at Klingons. But I expect no less than greatness from Ford. Full review here. Started in on Dragon Avenger by E.E.Knight. book...

    [December] What are you reading?

Finished up Blindsight by Peter Watts last week. Very good, hard-sci fi mixed with some philosophy. Its a first contact story and should be a front runner for a hugo next year. my review here I thought I'd finish up the year reading some John M. Ford, so I am reading my very first Star Trek...

Malazan series by Steve Erikson... anyone read it?

Lots of people love this series. I'm not one of them. I read Gardens of the Moon and didn't care for it. I was told that DeadHouse Gates was so much better. Read that. I didn't like it any better. In my opinion Erikson writes D&D novels on steroids. If thats what you like than by all means...

    [December] What are you reading?

Finished up Starship Troopers last night. Very good book. Heinlein certainly uses it to express his beliefs on society, but that doens't mean its not a great book. It's such a highly influential work that I almost felt like I'd read it before. The Forever War and Enders Game definately take...

Feast For Crows rocks so far!(small spoilers)

George certainly has more interests than just pounding out his books. He also wants to write the best book he can, so yeah if he's not feeling his muse, he's not going to just grind through it. As for going to too many cons... I like that about him. He's accessable to his fans. He's a great guy...

    [December] What are you reading?

TDtCB starts was very difficult to get into. I didn't start liking it until about 1/2 way in. Actually I appreciated the book a lot more once I read The Warrior-Prophet. But I believe its well worth going back to when you are done with Feast. As for crib notes on ASOIAF, you can find recaps here

    [December] What are you reading?

Oh yeah hard sci -fi Altered Carbon isn't. The sex didn't bother me , but it probably is a bit too graphic for young readers. It came highly reccomended, so I figured it was time I got around to it. so many books, so little time :(

    Suggest a book to me.

No, The Krondor books are not good. They are some of the worst books I've read. Feist does have some works that are pretty good. Magician is good. I enjoyed most of his stuff up through the Serpent War saga. His Empire series with Janny Wurts is his best work IMO.

Looking For New Author To Read

A real world equivelent to the settings in The Lies of Locke Lamora would be Renessiance era Venice. If you enjoy Historical Fantasy give The Dragon Waiting by John M. Ford a shot. Its set during the time of Richard the third, and contains a backdrop that includes the Medicis the Byzantine...
