What do your PCs do with prisoners?

An extension of this question might ask what does your party do with the noncombatant young in a monster's lair? Slay them, as they will grow up to be evil? Carry a cart-full to the local orphanage, along with a suitable donation? Adopt them as your own flesh and blood?

    Rule of 3: 10/31/2011

The 4e MM hag fewer hags than the 3e MM. That was another reason I was less than enamored with 4e. I wanted to test the new ruleset by fleshing out a campaign concept I had kept on the back-burner for years. Alas, the game needed greenhags, druids, and the awaken spell, none of which were in the...

    Rule of 3: 10/31/2011

Personally, I count that among the many things that drove me from adopting the 4e ruleset. But then again I typically downplay combat. The rapid-fire reliance on so many numbers disrupts my "willing suspension of disbelief".

    Rule of 3: 10/31/2011

I have often speculated about the "perfect" Monster Manual. In my musings I called it "My Monster Manual" You begin with an online database of thousands of monster entries. Next, simply choose which monsters you wish to have in your book. Illustrations, monster ecologies, world-specific...

    Rule of 3: 10/31/2011

On the nosey! And again! I remember looking at the 4e MM and thinking it was in essence a blank book with trading cards taped inside. Not my cup of tea. I want a book with loads of fluff that I can use as I see fit. Heck, I'd like to see a MM written up like a cookbook, discussing all of the...

Water Breathing Dispelled while character is underwater, drowning or drowned?

Another option: "...the primitive hagfish – also known as the snot-eel – defends itself by emitting a choking, gill-clogging slime that might be the envy of any surfer under attack from a shark." LINK That way you suffocate the Drylanders and Sea People in one fell swoop!

What do your PCs do with prisoners?

Five seconds, during which time the DM can have the surviving dungeon denizens reinforce their troops, summon assistance, reset traps, set new traps, and prepare for what's coming. As for my take on prisoners: I think we've got an eater!

    Your Turing Test: Big "F"

The last time I got a call from a questionable area code, I googled the number to discover it was a scam which would ask about my mortgage. Sure enough, they called back. I answered the phone, they asked if I was the homeowner and I replied: "Me? No. I'm just robbing this place."

Undersea Adventures: Comments, Concerns, & Concepts

A recap of last week's game session: In the last session (10/16/11) the party found themselves within the rusted remains of a metal ship. The iron vessel, wedged within the Weed-Sea, was home to a company of sea ghouls and their captive yet reluctant guardian, the pink coral princess Millepora...

Siri is a UI game changer

Actually, talking to your house is free. It's getting it to listen that's the kicker. ;) INSTEON-Compatible Thermostat - $160 INSTEON-Compatible Light Switch - $35 Indigo - $90 (Indigo Touch app for iOS = Free) True, it's not cheap. But for less than $300, once you have an iOS device, you...

The gaming community: online compared to the physical world

Siri is a UI game changer

Absolutely. Once Apple opens Siri's API to developers, Siri will really shine. Coupled with various INSTEON devices (light switches, thermostats, motion sensors, etc) and a suitable home automation application, you would be able to use Siri to turn on lights, open doors, access security cameras...
