Ok what are all these adventures!?

Blade of Vengeance was one of my favourites as a kid. You only needed one DM and one player, so ideal for a seventh-grade sleepover. The player played a nebulously gendered elf who returns home to see his/her home in Aelfheim being destroyed by humanoids. He/she then kicks some seriously...

Pathfinder 1E Mass combat in Pathfinder

Haffrung Helleyes, Wow. Your description, and the battle you describe, are truly epic. Very cool. Awesome (in the old biblical sense...)

A Bestiary question I'm embarrassed to ask...

And if I'm reading the rules correctly (p. 200 Pathfinder Core rules) the owlbear can only make inflict damage against its grappled creature as per a standard attack; it cannot make a full attack against the grappled creature, nor against anyone else. I assume that the damage must be...

A Bestiary question I'm embarrassed to ask...

So - another query, to which you alluded to earlier. The owlbear can grab (Bestiary p. 224) but not constrict (both are well described under Universal Monster Rules). But if it succeeds in its grab, does it too have the grappled condition (unless it chooses the CMB - 20)? Can it or can it...

A Bestiary question I'm embarrassed to ask...

Thanks for the counters! However, why would the vrock want to worry about using a martial weapon when its natural attacks (particularly @ full attack mode) are so deadly? Because then wouldn't subsequent attacks with said martial weapon be at -5? Again, you're killing me with the killer...

A Bestiary question I'm embarrassed to ask...

Another point... So this means the vrock discussed in my original post would be able to only rake w/ 1 x claw, 1 x bite, or 1 x talon with a standard action: attack action. But it could do the fol as a full attack: 2 x claw, 1 x bite, and 2 x talons...four times the number of attacks...

A Bestiary question I'm embarrassed to ask...

Gentlemen, Thanks for all your help on this point. The "Pathfinder" system for monster melee is truly more elegant than previous ones... And thanks so much for the highly illustrative graphics...

A Bestiary question I'm embarrassed to ask...

So if the troll had to move to attack our poor princess, it would have lost the opportunity for a full attack. However, I thought that a standard action would be to attack with both claws. However - Ruemere indicates that our lowly troll could only move and attack with one claw... Please...

A Bestiary question I'm embarrassed to ask...

Primary/Secondary attacks... Ruemere, Thanks for your helpful reply. So the lowly troll, for example has the fol for attacks: bite +8 (1d8+5), 2 claws +8 (1d6+5) These are both considered primary attacks, so even with a full attack, are both done with the +8 to hit, or is the bite done...

A Bestiary question I'm embarrassed to ask...

Stupid question - in the 3.5 MM it was easy to tell between attack and full attack. With the Bestiary I'm mystified. When is it a full attack, when it is merely an attack (as a standard action), and when is it simply a several available attack options. Example: the Vrock reads this in its...

Exploration based adventures/campaigns: how do you do it?

Check this thread out, for what I think may be the most lucid example of true "sandbox" play. A very interesting and worthwhile read: ars ludi » Grand Experiments: West Marches

Pathfinder 1E Mass combat in Pathfinder

"We DO keep talking about doing a big Mass Combat book for Pathfinder, and if we some day do that, it'll certainly be a more complex version. But the version that'll be in Kingmaker will be fast and quick and (hopefully!) fun." Mr. Jacobs, Excellent - I don't have the time or wherewithal to...

Pathfinder 1E Mass combat in Pathfinder

Thanks. I'm stoked about Kingmaker, especially as PirateCat is writing the first chapter, and it seems to be so "Expert Set" in its entire conceit. Now I'm looking forward to the mass combat aspect too. How did Cry Havoc play for you? Did you use it with Pathfinder?

Pathfinder 1E Mass combat in Pathfinder

Ladies and Gentlemen, Wondering if anyone out there has attempted using a mass combat system for Pathfinder, which allows for heroic, LotR-style battles, with the PCs as full participants/commanders. This last piece is always difficult to achieve - you need to be prepared to break PCs down...

Which modules you really wanted to run, but didn't get to finish ?

Lost opportunities... I unfortunately read all the Age of Worms modules (as they ran in Dungeon). I wish I hadn't, then I could have played them. I think the first three mods are all classic, and I've heard of other groups really enjoying them. We're currently slogging through Shackled City...

    Your favorite d20 System variant?

I vote for Iron Heroes. Too bad support has largely dried up (minus any Fiery Dragon plans), and too bad Mearls didn't spend a few more months cleaning it up before going to print. A note to all future publishers. If you want people to play your games, include pre-generated characters and a...

AOO's have to go, or be changed

All this debate hints at how much the whole AoO system bogs down combat. Veteran players understand AoOs, but even amongst them, it generates the sort of complex debate articulated here. And novices don't understand them because they are not intuitive. Anything that requires such complicated...

    Removing AoOs and 5'steps

Thanks to all of you; I probably won't remove either AoO or 5 ' steps. It would screw anybody who took Feats that related to either of those (Combat Reflexes et al). I'm curious to see how 4th Edition plays it out... Also, always scary when your DM shows up to answer your thread...

    Removing AoOs and 5'steps

I will check out True 20. I'm curious as to how it plays out. I purchased C+C a couple of years ago; lots of fun, and exactly what I would use if I was introducing new players to the game. However, not usable with more experienced players - too many inconsistencies and the SIEGE mechanic is...
