Is the AD&D 1E Revival here to stay?

From my understanding, the managment of Dragons Foot is worried about legal issues (will OSRIC be challanged or not) and how this will effect them. I'm not sure what they think WOTC could do to them for just having a forum, but oh well. Anyhow the window of time to challange OSRIC and its...

Is the AD&D 1E Revival here to stay?

Maggan posted: "Yes. But the reception of the news of C&C brought forth a lot of interest from people wanting it to be a vehicle for the recreation of AD&D." Thats true. And ironically, C&C has its own forum at DF (the home of AD&D 1E) continuing that perseption, despite the Trolls saying...

Is the AD&D 1E Revival here to stay?

Melan originally posted: "The interest (in 1E) was probably always around." I think your right. I feel hidden below the carpets of 2E and now 3E is a hardwood floor of 1E. Not dwelled on, but not forgotten. Below that hard wood floor is the subfloor of OD&D, and below that is...

Is the AD&D 1E Revival here to stay?

Maggen, that was a thoughtful post. You brought up some very interesting points: "At the moment, there is much talk about OSRIC being the herald of the AD&D 1E goodness,. But before that, C&C was the herald of the change back to the basics of the early D&D/AD&D. And before that Hackmaster...

Is there any interest in an online 1E Con?

-Moved to here- An online Con could be advertised with flyers at gaming stores nationwide. This would help online vendors as well as the hosting web site. The reason I didn't think DF would be the best match is 1. its members are already aware of AD&D and 2. its based in England. That...

    Converting D20 to OSRIC

Is there a relationship between WOTC and TLG? It seems they must have gotten the blessing of WOTC given Gary is so tied into C&C. If you consider how close C&C is to 1E, I could see 3E material being republished with C&C conversions (if a friendly relationship really exists).

Is there any interest in an online 1E Con?

This came up in another thread: If an Online OSRIC/1E compatable Con was set up at some point in the future, would you "show up" and partisipate in it? If yes, what kind of activities would you like to see included in such a Con (real time 1E gaming competitions with prizes (maybe timed and...

Is the AD&D 1E Revival here to stay?

So, I wonder how to push this wagon up the hill to the top so it can role on down the other side. :D Seriously, how do you get New Schoolers to even try AD&D (even though everyone has a copy of OSRIC by now, few really read it or run it). What about some kind of AD&D 1E online game...

Is the AD&D 1E Revival here to stay?

Diaglow wrote: OD&D(1974) is the only true game. All the other editions are just poor imitations of the real thing. I find AD&D 1E an improvement in its complexity. Yeah, I also think the majority of sales from these indys are late 30-50 somethings, not younger 3E players getting interested...

Is the AD&D 1E Revival here to stay?

C&C, PPP, GG, OSRIC (about 5 publishers from my count) are putting out or promising to put out a good amount of 1E compatable material in the very near future. The pace of OSRIC products alone is remarkable. Yet, given the sales numbers (under 500) for each product, it seems a "revival" is...

    Converting D20 to OSRIC

Has anyone seen any publishers talking about converting existing D20 modules (for instance, written for 3E or another D20 game) to OSRIC format? I know Goodman Games released some limited print stuff but I don't think it was OSRIC.

    OSRIC -- update

OK no one's asked in a while so I will: any new release dates for "OSRIC" or "Monsters of Myth" in print. I'm really hoping before Christmas.......I want my wife to buy me both in hard back. Seriously, a couple weeks before Christmas would be great for your sales numbers. ;) Oh...

    AD&D SRD?

OSRIC is 98% AD&D 1E, and you can pretty much run normal AD&D with it. And I'd say 100% Gygaxian in spirit. Its also a great supplement to have at your table, esp. for players and DMs not sure on the rules (and before I read OSRIC that was me  ) Speaking of having OSRIC at the...

    Preview of Monsters of Myth-Osric

Ourph, well said. This book will be usable by C&C players because its compatable with AD&D1, and that has to do with (I hope) a 1980s style presentation. It makes it much easier to use monsters when they aren't overly developed, one of the strengths of C&C and OSRIC products.

    OSRIC talk

I ran into this this morning at Dragons Foot's web site. By Jerry Mapes of K&KA: "The upcoming Monsters of Myth book has its Cover Art finished. Want a Sneak Peak? Go to http://knights-n-knaves.com and click on the "Sneak Peak -- Monsters of Myth" link. While you are there, you may...

I can't help but wonder--how many AD&D 1e players ARE there out there?

Akrasia -In short, your claims here are bogus.- You can never find a mod when you need one. :] I thought my comments about a future C&C2 were obviously a prediction not some sort of "insider information" (other companies have come out with later revised rules, not for any other reason but...

I can't help but wonder--how many AD&D 1e players ARE there out there?

Ghul today -I must, however, disagree with your assessment of C&C being "too 3eish" as I find it exactly opposite thereof. The system is intuitive, with a core mechanic that applies to all situations, yet variable in that every character has a different set of primary and secondary attributes...

I can't help but wonder--how many AD&D 1e players ARE there out there?

Thanks Ghul. Yes, I'm familiar with C&C now, like I said, its SIEGE Engine is too 3Eish (resolving everything based on consistant and predictable dice throws just like 3E, only in a simpler way). SIEGE is "gamey" (which isn't bad if thats what your aiming for) and needs to go back to the way...
