I can't help but wonder--how many AD&D 1e players ARE there out there?

It should also be pointed out the folks who brought us 3E also brought us Magic (a non role playing game, but heavy into adding powers etc., so what your saying Henry seems logical. I imagine WOTC counted on its core Magic players trying out 3E. If thats true, then what they did wasn't a bad...

I can't help but wonder--how many AD&D 1e players ARE there out there?

Posted Yesterday by Ghul -Or you can do what I've done: blend the two together. I run a C&C AD&D 1e hybrid. They're lovely together, like Brad and Angelina. No, I didn't just say that...- Hmmm...mixing C&C with AD&D1 seems odd. Do you mean use AD&D1 rules with C&C modules, or vis versa...

I can't help but wonder--how many AD&D 1e players ARE there out there?

WOTC and HASBRO won't move 4E to the table unless they KNOW they have an audiance. 3.5 players will switch, hook or by crook. Those that don't may want to try something new. That will be 1. C&C or 2. OSRIC/AD&D1, or leave altogether. I don't see the majority of people sticking with 3E...

I can't help but wonder--how many AD&D 1e players ARE there out there?

As a recent convert from 3E to C&C, I'm starting to look harder at AD&D1 (I've been reading many of the old threads at DF about AD&D and how its played). I'm going to attempt to get my group of 7 to make the switch from C&C to AD&D1 (which is basically the same except no SIEGE and the use of...

What is the best game to capture that old 1E AD&D feel? - Please state why.

Umbran stated: Having seen more and more of these threads, I just want to insert - games have more than one feel. The same set of books can generate a remarkably broad set of experiences, when played by different people, different assumptions, and different goals. TRUE BUT... each game (C&C...

What is the best game to capture that old 1E AD&D feel? - Please state why.

Posted: Anyway, two titles have come to mind for me to jump into to recapture that old feel... Castles & Crusades and Hackmaster. Well, the game that best captures the AD&D1 feel besides AD&D1 is OSRIC (written to reproduce it as close to 100% as possible). If you haven't yet downloaded it...

What is the best game to capture that old 1E AD&D feel? - Please state why.

Its great to see so much activity going on in the OOP segment. Look, all of these systems create a 1E feel, if the GM and players play them that way. As much as I love C&C, its not supposed to be a knock off of 1E, never was. Its a unique living system, and the creators wanted it that way...

Old school/new school definitions -- meaningless?

Len, nice summary man. Makes you wonder why "old school" modules went out of favor for so long :\ When did "new school" modules start? Probably Dragon Lance was the begining of something that really sparked the "new school" movement? 4E will come out soon, and IF it takes 3Es core...

Old school/new school definitions -- meaningless?

Just read the original PH and DMG and play a few games using those rules. You'll find the DM is given much more power and leeway compared to new school. Yes, you die more easily, so its important for a group to be smart and work together using their main specialty. There are no unifide method...

Old school/new school definitions -- meaningless?

Which modules deliver the best "old school" feel?

Old school/new school definitions -- meaningless?

I think Old School is probably just using the rules as written in the orignal books and the kind of play that occured playing in the original modules. I think a good summary of these rules can be found in TLG's C&C and perhaps closer still in Osric. if you don't have copies of the original Gary...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Gary, long time reader, first time poster. I can't help but get depressed over this news about Rob leaving (why I'm posting). C&C has been a God-send to us "old schoolers" now with Rob gone, it'll be that much more difficult. Oh well, take heart...it may still work out for the best. :D I...

    The Official Welcome Thread

Greetings Greetings all! This is my first post here (though I have been reading both Enworld on and off for several years). I'm very interested in understanding where the hobby stands today, at the brink of 4E on one extreme, and the return to older OOP versions (namely 1E) using the OSRIC...
