    Questions about Chaos Magic [Mongoose]

Allowing multiple damage effects (even only one of each type) turned out to be a bad idea. At 15th level 53d8 of damage (even if spread over 6 rounds) is just too much for a single spell. ;) So I suggest you use just only a single damage effect in a spell.

    Questions about Chaos Magic [Mongoose]

No answers? Well, I'll try to answer these questions and others myself, then, to the best of my ability. You can have multiple effects of the same type of effect, as long as they aren't exactly the same. There is one exception, and that is that you can't have multiple effects of the same...

    Questions about Chaos Magic [Mongoose]

Can I do the following: *In a single spell have multiple transformation effects? *In a single spell have multiple moderate transformation effects? *In a single spell have multiple raw damage effects? For example a 15th chaos mage casting a spell doing 15d8 fire damage, 15d8 cold damage...

    ECL, Feats and Ability Increases...

I don't subscribe to Dragon magazine. My interpretation was based on what I read in the DMG, MM and FRCS, as well as some opinions I found on the messageboards (Monte's amongst them).

    ECL, Feats and Ability Increases...

I'm also not upset. ;) To make things more muddied (or clear them up, depending on where you stand), it really matters very little balance-wise which you choose (total HD or class levels only). HD Pro's: you "only" need 2 character level definitions. Cons: determining when you get an ability...

Human with Regeneration 1. What do you think the ECL should be?

Probably ECL +1. Getting knocked out and burried alive will kill even a troll (suffocation is never subdual damage, same thing with starvation I think).

    ECL, Feats and Ability Increases...

Sean's ruling sounds familiar... ;) Anyway, main reason why just following the FRCS (which fails to define actual level, hence the incompleteness) won't work is that it makes NO sense for max. skill ranks to be based on class levels alone (races that grant HD make that a mess!). Just thought...

    ECL, Feats and Ability Increases...

The "use HD for equivalent class level" rule comes from the DMG, and was reiterated by Monte. Since the FRCS fails to mention ability increases and feat gains, I suggest you just use the DMG rules for that. We can argue long and hard about this, but the point is, the DMG rules are less than...

    ECL, Feats and Ability Increases...

OK, in more detail: Gaining new feats and ability increases For races with one or less HD this works exactly the same as for the standard races. For races with more than one HD this is not the case. For such PCs you use total number of HD to determine whether or not a PC should get a NEW feat...

Sovereign Stone magic for generic D&D

Hmm. Let's see. Yep, these half-level casters (rangers & paladins) could be as good as a pure caster (wizard/priests) in a single school of magic, assuming those spellcasters put only about half their levels in a single school -which isn't too unlikely, considering the limited spell list they...

    ECL, Feats and Ability Increases...

Use HD equals character level for everything except starting gold, starting xp and level advancement (for which you use ECL). This includes feat gains and ability increases, as well as max skill ranks and many other things.

Sovereign Stone magic for generic D&D

The intention of this division is that is is simple and unambiguous. If I decide to dig deeper, for example by putting spells into different schools based on energy type or extraplanar nature, DMs would be forced to look up the guidelines every time they open up a new book of spells, not to...

    ECL of a Aranea?

Of course, that includes the spellpower of an Aranea. Disregard that and ECL will drop to +5.

Sovereign Stone magic for generic D&D

Good points. Of course, the racial division as given above is completely arbitrary. ;) The reason planetouched got boosted is because of their inherent magical nature and the fact that they are very weak +1 races. The dwarf was 2e thinking. As for humans; choosing would be too powerful I think...

Sovereign Stone magic for generic D&D

I've been trying to rework the SS system to have it replace the standard slot system. One of the bigger problems was the division into elements used by SS. Below is my attempt to fix that problem, plus how using this system affects the other classes. ----------------- Sovereign Stone magic for...

Sum Mon III - Dretch - Unbalanced?

Note that all spells cast by a summoned creature end when the summoning spell ends (PHB 157). So those darkness and stinking cloud spells have a duration of 1 round per level as well. Takes some of the power away from them.

Whats the ECL of a bugbear?

Actually, Bugbears get a feat for their monster levels, which may or may not be alertness (player's choice). This and a lot more info can be found by following the link below. ;)
