The Best & Worst of 3rd Edition: Ultimate 3E: Unearthed Arcana, Eberron, Pathfinder

Don't know about Left Hand of Death but City of Towers is one heck of novel, I agree.

The Bells of Fortune: Another Action Point System (short)

I'd thought of that, but in my players contribute to the game in different ways. For example, one guy who is very good at roleplaying brings his own food instead of chipping in for pizza. Another, who can be an infuriating munchkin, is always on time, gives rides to other players, not only...

The Best & Worst of 3rd Edition: Ultimate 3E: Unearthed Arcana, Eberron, Pathfinder

Since you asked...the reason why my Eberron campaigns were prone to falling flat on their faces is that a lot of information needed to be absorbed in order to "properly" play something. Also, Sharn is surprisingly hard to convey, map, and adventure in.

The Best & Worst of 3rd Edition: Ultimate 3E: Unearthed Arcana, Eberron, Pathfinder

I voted Eberron because I think it represents a wonderful way of thinking about D&D. I don't run or play it anymore, because I like homebrews better, but I crib off the setting constantly. I think in the future, people will look back on 3.5's Eberron as some look to 1E's Greyhawk--a time and...

Hmm...50 views and no replies? Maybe I could throw in some lava immersion rules?

The Bells of Fortune: Another Action Point System (short)

Hello ENWorld! I know Action Points aren't widely used, but I thought I'd post my interpretation on the system for comment/critique. I used to use Action Points in every campaign, but now I feel like it leads to an arms race between players and the DM so I'm replacing the system with this one...

    Why won't you switch?

I heartily thank you for your exercise in restraint. As I said earlier, doing so acquits all community members on either side of the issue well.

The Best & Worst of 3rd Edition: FINAL FIVE: PHB II, UA, Eberon, Ptolus, Pathfinder

From a wise man, after losing an election... Vincent Hanna: Master William Pitt, the Even Younger, are you disappointed? Pitt the Even Younger: Yes, I'm horrified. I smeared my opponents, bribed the press to be on my side, and threaten to torture electorate if we lost. I fail to see what a...

    Why won't you switch?

I also would like to thank, nay, congratulate everyone in thread for maintaining civility by not saying anything too disparaging about 4E. It acquits us well to be nice to one another. I also was bummed about Dungeon and Dragon going away, though I hear Kobold Quarterly is doing a good job...

    Why won't you switch?

I don't know if this topic has been the object of a thread, but it has been broached. Just as in the 'why are you still here' thread, I think we can all be civil and not let this one degenerate. The key to this preservation will lie in posters' willingness to not criticize the reasons given. I...

D&D 4E Is my friend's unwillingness to try 4e irrational?

I do hope you haven't as loose a definition of 'tyranny of the majority' as this post implies. Sure, it sucks that Bob's got to make a decision, but that's not tyranny. Nobody is forcing bob to actually do anything, near as I can tell.

D&D 4E Is my friend's unwillingness to try 4e irrational?

Doesn't seem like an ultimatum if everyone else is on board but Bob. Just seems like the democratic response.

D&D 4E Is my friend's unwillingness to try 4e irrational?

Generalizing why people aren't doing something is pretty bad form. There are a lot of reasons why not to make the switch, though I'm not going to go into them here as they've been debated to death. I wouldn't discount the large amount of gamers who don't post on the net or feel the need to give...

A PC died in my campaign on Saturday

This isn't a moral issue or anything, but I really think that, as a DM, you ought to uphold the conventions of your table before anything you read on the internet. If you have players so invested in their characters that Death is this big deal, you are doing your job well enough that nobody here...

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

Cool! I'm really looking forward to Shades of Gray. Please let us know when your knew work goes on Amazon (though that'll be months from now).

D&D 4E Is my friend's unwillingness to try 4e irrational?

Let's analyze the economic motive, instead of focusing on the other reasons Bob won't voice. Why is economy an issue? Could he take umbrage at the fact that 4E is coming only a few years after 3.5, which was itself on the heels of 3.0? I know this reasoning factors into my decision of not...

But this baby will take you from 1-30 in half the time!

Wise. I agree with the group about H1 and my heart goes out to you regarding the Paladin. I had such a player in the first group I DM'ed and it discouraged me from trying anything new or unusual. Speaking from experience, if he is loud and obnoxious, tell him you'd appreciate him keeping an open...
