But this baby will take you from 1-30 in half the time!

My advice is to just sit tight, they'll come around eventually. I know that seems maddeningly uncertain and poor strategy, but the trend is that most groups eventually keep current with the edition, but it takes a while. I know I'm not going to be converting right away, but I'll probably convert...

How much money have you spent on 3.x?

Probably bought anywhere between 8,000 to 10,000 USD worth of stuff, though most (7,000) was paid for by VCU. My investment is the primary cause for not moving forward with 4E. I might be persuaded, but my games have never hit the brick walls that 4E breaks down so I don't need new rules...

    D&D Minis: Preview 2

Slight tangent: Dragotha would be pretty cool, but there's an implicit tie to Greyhawk, so I guess that's out...

    D&D Minis: Preview 2

Not a terribly important point, but do we know whether or not the new mini RPG cards will use 3.5 or 4E rules?

The Book of Experimental Might: Now in Print!

Time will tell, but if this book is like Unearthed Arcana (my initial read is yes) then I'd happily fork over 9 dollars for it. 9 Dollars for 83 pages of Monte Cook game material. This is a pretty good deal for those of us not making the transition in June.

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

Actually, you're right. I didn't know the memo was classified and that somebody broke their NDA by posting it. So I admit I was wrong. For what it's worth, I really do like most of your work. I asked about the particulars of the situation in my initial post of the thread, but the discussion...

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

I don't agree with this at all. While I'm not converting 4E, it's mostly because I have a lot of 3.5 left to use and frankly think it's way too soon for an edition. I'll admit that I was resistant, even resentful of the publicity Wotc gave it, particularly due to the mishandling of Online Dragon...

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

He didn't say positive experiences. That's what I was referring to. Look, if you don't like what I'm saying, that's fine. Put me on your ignore list before you accuse me of not applying common sense to the situation. I don't really want to argue with you either. I think disclosing the...

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

I understand that. I understand that the whole ball of was was probably initiated by the playtesters. I still think they should have said they were instructed not to say anything negative about the game. If they wanted follow that up with a statement effecting that they had no criticism of 4E...

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

I agree with you, but I didn't want to start a flame war or anything over the difference between editorial control and prior review. Since I've tried already to explain this, mentioning that they are different things, but made no progress. Wizards has denied them the ability to post negative...

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

I am refusing to discuss this any further. Clearly I am not elucidating my opinion to you all and I am frustrated with trying.

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

I've looked into it a bit and can't find where Ari said it would cause flak. I did find places where he proclaimed the post his sincere opinion (which I believe). This doesn't change my position at all. Being honest after the fact is still being disingenuous. I still do not comprehend your...

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

I've read Andy's comment and while I agree with the decision he made, it sounds like they are exerting editorial control over his blog by telling what is ok or not to post. Editorial control isn't necessarily prior review... I still think that Ari should have prefaced his post in the way I...

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

Already said I would have no problem with Ari prefacing his post in the aforementioned manner. I stand by the comment. What other would people might engage in I will not speculate, but if people did say that Wotc was structuring private blog posts to paint a favorable picture of 4E, there would...

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

I understand that Ari has a positive outlook on 4E, but his playtest report implies that he had generic clearance to talk about 4E--we didn't know what editorial controls he was under and I think he should have at least mentioned them. I believe I would have had no problem nor would my opinion...

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

When and how did the news break that Wotc encouraged certain playtesters to post their positive experiences? If it happened before Ari posted, I find it deeply unethical. We are currently unaware of the system. All we have is what they tell us, and while we expect bias, "letting" bloggers sing...

D&D 4E LAST CHANCE TO WIN FREE 4e Rulebooks DEADLINE JAN 30th!!! GET ENTRIES IN!!

Just sent in mine. I wonder if it's easier to build a new feat or a twentieth level character. Something tells me there are going to be a lot more entries for the second contest. I'll be happy to see the results even if I don't win. In fact, I really hope we get to see the re-drafts of Power...

24 (now 29) products announced so far for 08, what else will we see? (Now with 09!)

Although I'm not updating to 4E, I can see the advantages in avoiding another glut. Or am I the only one felt really blitzed by all the new stuff that came out in 2004-2006? Shame too. The warlock and a few other things made a big splash but a lot of other stuff went relatively unnoticed...

    Why are you still here?

A bit off topic but I'm in the same boat as you, Whisper. After Ari gave such a glowing review and I found out about the tax rebates I figured: Why not? Then I got home to my library. It's just not possible for me to justify letting all that game material go to waste. On top of that I've got a...
