Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

Sure. Like I said, mercer runs it like her runs D&D. I am just saying that the game itself is not extremely militant about it in the way many other narrative games are. the rules themselves allow for Hope and Fear to be little more than play currency.

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

I was using them as an example of a non-superhero setting where there are tiers of power as real things in the world of the fiction.

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

The Knights of the Round Table in the romances were anime heroes, powers wise. Lots of crazy stuff happening there in a genre that is usually easily connected to D&D.

    Let's Talk About Short Campaigns

I also think that "campaign" works well even for shorter endeavors if each of those sessions is episodic and/or stand alone.

NO SPOILERS!!!! How much Mercer contributed to the design is up for debate. He is listed among half a dozen "additional designers" and you can get those credits for coming up with a singular element of the design. The fiction always changes based on what the characters have done. that's just...

    Let's Talk About Short Campaigns

It is very weird to hear people describe a multi-session game as a 1 shot. Aside from that, lots of folks play once a month (or less). A year long campaign for them is something like 10 sessions with cancellations. I don't think it is fair to call that "not a campaign."

    Let's Talk About Short Campaigns

I think a short campaign can be described similarly to a short novel: length isn't really the defining factor of either. A novel is more than a long story or novella because of its complexity -- characters, subplots, etc... -- and similarly a campaign is more than a long adventure due to its...

D&D (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

I have said this before, but this is why you could not "get away with" BG3 at the table: people like their horny fun in private or at least with very selective partners. No one wants to pretend to romance Shadowheart with their beer buddies.

D&D (2024) It Is 2025 And Save Or Suck Spells Still Suck (the fun out of the game)

That is interesting: what if the Gm gets "Doom Points" based on encounter numbers disparity? That is, the ratio of PCs to monsters (as the encounter is designed) equals the number of Doom points/LRs the GM starts the encounter with. So if it is 4 PCs against a boss monster and its lieutenant...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

D&D (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

I feel like you completely ignored the part about Larian's heart and humor, and sort of seem like you think that i think NSFW Bad. Weird. What I said was that there's a non-zero, even good, chance that WotC will make a "BG4" that is full of boobs but devoid of brains and screw it up. People...

    D&D General D&D memes thread discussion…

Well, of course low fantasy has to include in-game racism! ::massive eyeroll emoji::

D&D (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

It would be unfortunate if WotC decided to go too "family friendly" with whatever they do for a follow up, but I think it would be even worse if they learned the wrong less and went over the top with the NSFW stuff without having any of larian's heart or humor. Way too often, C suite folks read...

D&D (2024) It Is 2025 And Save Or Suck Spells Still Suck (the fun out of the game)

I don't follow how this would somehow be more reasonable. If there is anything less fun than having the wizard eliminate a lieutenant with one spell, it is spending 30 minutes of table time arguing over the exact phrasing of a suggestion. In the end, since the player literally pulled the...

D&D (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

All of that stuff was consistent with the overall tone of BG3. So, in short, yes it did. Does every D&D game need an M rating? probably not.

    Non-fantasy RPG suggestions?

Savage Worlds can do "mundane" easily, but does require the right mix of campaign rules to get away from its inherent action adventure tone if that's not what you are after. What sort of tone are you aiming for?

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

I disagree completely. "Personness" is totally unrelated to mechanics.

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

Whether characters are exceptional has no bearing over whether they are recognizably people.
