IIRC Mystara has even more weird stuff in it than Greyhawk does? DCC would work well for that. Dark Sun would work well, but you might want to use some Mutant Crawl Classics (MCC) or other DCC rules supplements to work in the psionics etc. All the (X)CC stuff works fine together.

I have allowed flying characters to carry others but we use encumbrance. In most cases this'll result in reducing their speed to 5ft due to A5E's encumbrance rules, and also 5e's drag/push weight rules. This has prevented abuse thus far.
