D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

If you're looking at an all-rounder class, you could look to 3e's Factotum for inspiration. They were dabblers in everything.

Worlds of Design: Magic, Magic Everywhere

The collection-of-adventure books are different, I'd say, from the single long campaign adventures. I listed CoS and ToA, which had a load of magic items. GoS is largely adaptations of old adventures, which I guess were some of the miserly ones? GoS is quite sparse with magic though, I'll agree...

Worlds of Design: Magic, Magic Everywhere

Ha I think my problem in communication is that I consider 3e and afterwards "modern" DnD- it's post-TSR DnD, modern ability score definitions n rules (10=0, 12=+1, etc). But I think you might underestimate the magic items provided in 5e adventures. As far as 5e adventures go, let's look at...

Do Shorter Lists Make Players/GMs More Creative?

It's a strange thing, and when this gets discussed I often find myself saying things like "back in my day, things were better! We were more creative, we had less rules, blahblahblah!" But I scarcely remember my 2e days, when I started TTRPGs. I played heavily in the 3.Xe era, where rules reigned...

Worlds of Design: Magic, Magic Everywhere

It really depends on how much you want to derail the campaign for a vendetta. But making the thieves "unreachable" because they're too powerful seems like it could get antagonistic quickly. As far as players' belief that their characters are the most powerful... well, that really depends on the...

Worlds of Design: Magic, Magic Everywhere

Yeah, to be clear it's been a thing since Ye Olden Dayes. I ran Night Below for 5e, and wow! But modern adventures are also filled with magic items... and Red Hand of Doom? I loved that adventure, it's one of the best, buuut wow yeah the magic items are overflowing. On the other hand... I get...

Worlds of Design: Magic, Magic Everywhere

Good ways, IMO, to control magic items in your party: Trade them away for something else. A favor, other magic items, power, whatever. I've had players trade permanent magic items for consumables because they didn't think the things they had were worthwhile, and they had a big fight coming up...

Worlds of Design: Magic, Magic Everywhere

In my experience, in any TTRPG where the party has been stolen from, they have dropped nearly everything to go reclaim their stolen property and vengefully punish those that stole from them. Like, really really vengefully punish. That merchant might just try to pick up the pieces after being...

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

If it makes y'all feel any better, it's not being completely overlooked on the GG Discord. Some folk are throwing a fit on there.

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

I'm probably misinterpreting this. It sounds like you're saying you don't care about what the source of a product is doing, as long as it produces the product. "I don't care if the funny man spews hateful stuff in their off time, as long as they're the funny man on stage I'll still buy...

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

I am now prepared to be very disappointed. I guess I'm really now a bit into said disappointment. I picked up A LOT of Goodman Games stuff over the years. The silver lining is that I'd always tout DCC as "my ideal TTRPG to run that I can't 'cuz I run too much 5e," so... I guess I don't have to...

D&D (2024) OAR 10 City State of the Invincible Overlord

What's the problem with this one? edit: Ah, a quick search provided me with Poltergeist, Witchcraft or Hoax: The Witch of Scrapfaggot Green – #FolkloreThursday Ugh. We saw from The Elusive Shift that there were some enlightened mentalities around TTRPGs in the early days... and then there were...

Yeah. Definitely waiting to see what word comes from Goodman, though.

On This May The 4th, Let's Celebrate Star Wars TTRPGs. +

Star Wars Saga Edition was my longest experience with a Star Wars TTRPG. I think I played a little bit of the WEG version, and some Edge of the Empire, but Saga happened to be what I sunk my teeth into.

    D&D (2024) Variant Human idea

I definitely think this idea came up in a different thread, someone was redoing species traits maybe? It's an interesting idea.

D&D 5E To Be or Not to Be: Legendary

The bolded bothers me.. I guess it's just part of the "there's no real risk involved in this fight" mentality. Not your fault, it's nothing new... I think it's why I like higher damage. That's one thing Mearls mentioned about increasing damage/lowering HP.. it definitely made his players more...

D&D 5E To Be or Not to Be: Legendary

I like the heavier hits a lot more ... 20-something damage from an ancient dragon hit seems so minor, even if there are many of them... that thing should hit like a truck, not death-by-a-thousand-cuts. PCs at that level have, what, ~150hp? But I guess that could be a simulationist mentality...
