    Advice on PbP

I'm running a PbP over at Circvsmaximvs.com, and have for a little over a year now. It's been a great game. I'll probably repeat a lot of the advice already given, but that's because I didn't bother reading this whole thread. :) 1. Roll as much as possible for the players. I roll initiative...

Presidential Election Politics and What Turned Me Off From 4e

First Joe the Plumber, now Joe the Lawyer. I'll be glad when election season is over.

Any other Judges Guild fans here?

I'll have to search for Inferno. I don't have that one.

Any other Judges Guild fans here?

Ok, so in the last few years, I've become a crazed Judge's Guild fan. Pretty incredible considering a lot of their stuff was published when I was a toddler. I picked up some Pegasus magazines off eBay a while back, and it had an assortment of other things in the set as well - old JG stuff...

Irreconcilable differences(Forked Thread: When did I stop being WotC's...)

I wish someone (other than myself) would go back and dig through some usenet archives from circa September 2000 to see what kinds of gnashing of teeth and hand wringing was going on with folks with the release of 3rd edition. Personally, I recall lots of folks being really excited about the new...

When did I stop being WotC's target audience?

I don't think that 4e detracts from role-playing any more than Monopoly detracts from role-playing. You don't even need a damned book to roleplay anything. But I do feel like 4e replaces the sense of what it means to be a "character" with a list of abilities and powers. I feel like wizards...

When did I stop being WotC's target audience?

Two things - First, I stopped buying WoTC books years ago - when I realized I could find far more creative and imaginative stuff from 3rd party publishers. Nowadays, my whole campaign is based around 3rd party stuff - mostly Necromancer Games. Secondly, with 4th edition, I feel like the...

The Best D&D edition for me.

Listen to Psion. The man knows his games. Personally, I like 3.5. Alternatively, you could check out Paizo's Pathfinder, which is described as 3.75 since Wizards of the Coast no longer support 3rd edition. I don't like 4th, and I agree that it's more focused on combat than 3rd edition is...

    What did you buy?

I'll subscribe to something D&D-related the day Judge's Guild begins republishing Pegasus magazines. In other words, no thanks, WoTC.

    Rod of Seven Parts 3e

I've ran parts of it, and I ended up turning the GM'ing for that campaign (I moved) to one of the players and he finished it out in 3rd edition. ENworld's creature repository (the name escapes me) has conversions for all the monsters in it into 3rd edition stats. I'm sure a Google search will...

Going back to 3.5... Any ideas to 4e-ify it?

I'll preface this by stating that I'm not that familiar with all the details of 4th edition, having chosen to stick with 3.5 myself. That said, here are some ideas for you. Toss XP out the window. I did. Very liberating. Assign quests to the party, and when they finish certain quests, level...

    E6: The Game Inside D&D

Speaking of magic items in an E6 game, I was actually thinking of writing up a bunch of magic items specific for E6 using the Artificer's Handbook rules. AH rules have a different magic item mechanic, and it relies on the number of spell slots. So, using AH, you can't actually create a 3rd level...

One major thing I sure miss...

The release of 4th edition has really invigorated the excitement over RPGs - RPGs other than D&D. I see all kinds of folks taking this opportunity to expore other systems. People are playing all kinds of other things now. The release of 4th edition has probably been the best thing to happen...

    Are Published Adventures Too Long?

Yea, I tend to agree that they're too long. I think most groups also tend to get kind of bored with the campaign well before they reach 20th level. I think there's probably a market for adventure paths that end at about 8th, 10th or 12th level.

Dragon Roots Magazine DIDN'T sell the 4e Killed Gary shirts

Has anyone considered the possibility that *no one* at Gen Con sold this shirt? It sounds more likely to me that these individuals showed up to the convention wearing the shirt, and probably had them custom made in their home town.

How big is a Thieves' guild?

In a town of 10,000, there's probably very little a 12th level rogue *couldn't* steal. 15-20 sounds about right to me. Any more than that, and they city would likely crack down on them, as they'd probably be running out of potential targets to steal from. Remember that most people in the town...
