    The Early Verdict (kinda long)

And that makes a lot of sense to me for a 1st level character. It's the GM's job to make sure he doesn't throw a TPK-inducing encounter. A 4th edition GM could also TPK a 1st level party by throwing too many, or too powerful monsters at them. I fail to see the point of your argument. Which is...

    Biggest 4E PHB complaint...

Me too! My sense of order in the universe got kicked in the nards when I read that. I was like, "but, but, that can't be right!"

Which version of D&D or D&D-like will you be playing by the end of 2008 ?

Wow, if this poll is even remotely close to being a reflection of the population at large, WoTC has a lot of work to do WRT to 4th edition.

    The Early Verdict (kinda long)

I tend to agree with the OP on this one. As per his examples, it seems like 4e characters "hit the ground running" when it comes to preparedness. You could make characters like that in 3rd edition, but you didn't have to. Thing is, in life, people aren't always prepared, which is why it was...

    Pathfinder vs. 3.5E?

Uh... My head just exploded. I'm just gonna back away from this one slowly.

What do 3rd-party publishers think of the GSL?

My new book "8-armed Tantric Goddesses of the Ancient Indian Mythos" will fail to see print under this license, so that I may bring you "Fluffy bunnies go on an adventure" instead. That said, I actually had an idea for a PDF book that I seriously doubt would be allowed under the GSL since a...

Mongoose 3.0/3.5 Grand Archive - Any Interest?

I can't speak for Thunderhead Games or Mystic Eye Games, but both companies are defunct, and I can't imagine that they continue to really profit off their existing libraries. I'll email Hal to see what he thinks about the idea. If so, I could contribute all the Bluffside stuff, and the...

You reap what you sow - GSL.

Seems all the best threads are on ENWorld these days... As a freelancer working for a company that tried getting in on the ground floor (Thunderhead Games) I agree with Matt that the general consensus regarding OGC has changed over the years. Early on, most companies felt like they had to...

    Pathfinder vs. 3.5E?

Ok, I skipped pages 4-6 of this thread, but Hobo and I already hashed this out over at CircvsMaximvs - there are two kinds of "backwards compatibility". Type #1 - I'll call "Backwards Compatibility" - let's you use existing modules rather easily, or let's you use an existing campaign setting...

    Round Robin GM'ing (D&D) - Thursday 8 to midnight

You are correct in your assumption. I will add you! :)

    Gender Issues

Ah, this old chestnut... Fully half of all my characters are female. In fact, I once took a tally of characters I'd made over the course of a lifetime of playing Star Wars here and there, and I had something like 33% female, 33% male, and 33% droids! I had a folder that contained every 2nd...

    The Evolution of the Fighter

I think you should run the numbers again, except this time pit a 1st level commoner against a common house cat. Except that I'm not sure 4e has either commoners, nor house cats. So, it might be too difficult. :)

I just did something I never though I would do

re: lack of GSL support as a turnoff. Most of my campaign setting is based on 3rd party support. Wilderlands with a number of 3rd party options including a number of products like Book of Templates, Blight Magic from MEG, Tome of Horrors, yadda yadda. None of which is WoTC. In fact, I'm...

I just did something I never though I would do

Danny, my current RL group has no intentions of switching. If we decide to play something more than a casual one-shot, I would definitely pick up the PHB for myself. Otherwise, I'm not going to bother with it. Honestly, I could see myself playing C&C before I played 4th edition.

jdrakeh, I would NEVER start a thread just to stir up a drama. That is so unlike me.

Oh, I agree. Which is why I'll be using an E6/E8 variant from now on.

How has the 4e/3e schism affected you?

I've not seen any RL drama over it. My RL group is sticking with 3.5 and has no plans whatsoever (at this point) to move to 4th edition.

I just did something I never though I would do

I canceled my 4th edition pre-order. Amazon hadn't shipped my books yet, and given what I've read, seen, and now the GSL stuff was finally the nail in the coffin for me. So long, WoTC, and thanks for all the fish.
