Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

"Oh, someone's expressing a positive opinion about a game I don't like? Guess I'm duty bound to go set fire to their joy." Sigh. Gamers are the worst.

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

I am repeatedly surprised and giddy as I read through this book. It's amazing to me that both Matt Mercer and Matt Colville have recapitulated D&D 4E in wildly different ways as their flagship games. So many best of and greatest hits of D&D 4E were brought forward in Daggerheart. So many things...

Daggerheart Review: The Duality of Robust Combat Mechanics and Freeform Narrative

The poster was talking about PbtA-style narrative twists and extras the referee has to come up with based on rolls. That only comes up with fear rolls, which is about half the time, minus crits.

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

What benefit does JG get from lying? All they can do is hurt their business partner (GG) and decrease any profits they might get as a result. They tank the Kickstarter that will potentially make them money? They tank GG already sullied reputation even further and reduce future sales? Yeah, he...

Daggerheart Review: The Duality of Robust Combat Mechanics and Freeform Narrative

It's closer to about 50% and there's an extensive list of options you can pick from. As mentioned, if nothing else you can just give the PC a stress when they roll with fear.

    Dragonbane Announces Two New Books

Here's a post I made on the Dragonbane general thread about flipping the math. There's also a handy chart included. https://www.enworld.org/threads/dragonbane-general-thread.709343/post-9543836

Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

As I said in the other threads: May 9. "Maybe it's my cynicism, but I can't shake the feeling that there's another shoe that's going to drop." Today. "If even half of that’s true whatever reputation Goodman had left was just torpedoed to hell." This feels like the other shoe just dropped.

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

It's no coincidence that all of them do. Exactly. First thing to do when you're in a hole is stop digging.

Daggerheart Review: The Duality of Robust Combat Mechanics and Freeform Narrative

I think that's the crux of it. One of the reasons I'm on the lookout for a game that actually explains how to implement narrative structure in a game is that while a lot of players might want a story, even after a lifetime of consuming stories, there's no guarantee they will actually know how...

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

Gotcha. The GM Principles, GM Best Practices, Pitfalls to Avoid, hard and soft moves, GM Moves, Countdowns, and Thinking in Beats are all fairly standard in PbtA games...though some have different names in those systems. Sorry. I didn't mean to put you on the spot. Finding a game that actually...

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

I think he already has. But yeah, that would finish off what's left of his reputation.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

I think the first thing I'm doing is making a Dragonbane-like duck ancestry.

How Long Do You Wait Before You Houserule a New TTRPG?

Chesterton’s Fence. I want to get a good handle on the system as it’s meant to be played before changing things. A few sessioms or adventures at least.

Daggerheart Review: The Duality of Robust Combat Mechanics and Freeform Narrative

Again, this is specifically called out in Shadowrun Anarchy as not acceptable. It is similarly called out in Daggerheart. A given group not being able to handle more narrative control does not mean narrative control is bad. Not every game is for every group. That’s to be expected.

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

You enter into contracts willingly and with something like this there’s almost always an out. A time limit or a kill fee, etc. Goodman is doing this because he wants to and thinks its important. That he thinks it’s more important than not giving money to Nazis is why I’ll never buy or use...

Daggerheart Review: The Duality of Robust Combat Mechanics and Freeform Narrative

Daggerheart is not designed for gamers out to win or optimize the fun out of the game. It’s designed for roleplayers looking to maximize the drama. Playing in good faith is required for some of these systems to work. ETA: This exact thing is called out in Shadowrun Anarchy as abusing the system...
