The divide was intended since the original edition.
Wizards where supposed to start weak and end strong, each class having their own scaling and max level, balanced over a full campaign.
3e made it worse, as they unified the levels but kept the spell scaling by class level.
5e softened that...
Yea. Again, i don't think they are overpowered until 11 or so
Get a cart and do it while traveling.
Wizards shouldn't be able to get 90% of a martial, ever.
Including that "transform into a fighter" spell from earlier editions.
Also, Wall of Force doesn't take time to prepare.
Nor does Mass...
Best would be CME + Scorching Ray.
But that takes your 2 big spells and does appropriately big damage.
Dunno why that would be unplayable.
Warcaster and Spell Sniper.
Misty step into position.
Attack, nick (at -1), Eldritch blast * 3 = 5 attacks.
Action surge, attack, Eldritch Blast *3 = 4...
1 Rogue and 4 wizards.
Is now a party of 5 rogues and 4 wizards.
Control weather.
That's why i picked rogues.
They can most easily deal damage while avoiding taking any. Stand in the back, hit and run.
4 wizards can lay down plenty of web and other control while 5 rogues will pick them off...
See Invisibility.
Foresight. Can't sneak attack with disadvantage.
Or just turn invisible yourself.
Also Shield and mirror image.
Good thing a level 20 wizard can cast mass suggestion 5 times, plus foresight.
Cast simulacrum on a rogue.
You now deal more damage than the rogue.
And yes. CME is overpowered too.
Sorcerer 2 / warlock 2/ Valor bard X can is like twice the damage a Barbarian can do.
Not sure i agree with that.
Warlocks are balanced fine with their limited higher level slots.
There are some top level spells that really should be removed though (simulacrum).
That's mostly what I did.
At what levels?
IMO, casters are weak from 1-4, it's balanced 5-10, ahead at 11-15, and completely dominate 16+.
Giving them an extra slot at 1, and removing slots at higher level should align them much better.
Re: Martial vs Caster
The main issue is that casters get to keep their lower level slots. Level 20 Wizard can cast Shield, Enhance Abilities, and Arcane Eye without it affecting their big move.
If they scaled more like warlocks, with scaling slots, it would be a lot easier to balance. A...
