D&D 5E Should D&D be easier to learn? If so, how would you do it?

A two to three page guide on maintaining, and updating as you level, character sheets is sorely lacking. If a fresh noob, how everything interacts is not intuitive. Also the sheet is hot garbage for tracking day/rest limited abilities. I think selecting spells to learn or prepare is pretty...

D&D (2024) Taking a healing potion as a bonus action?

I hear this enough that it must not come up as much in other peoples games, but healing to single digits, while it makes the player useful, is often more dangerous than being unconscious. I’m not big on targeting unconscious players, but I do have to go after anyone standing and single hp...

D&D General One Piece of Art IX (Wildcard)- What NON-D&D Art Inspired You to Love D&D?

I came here to post the same thing. It was my favorite book as a child…maybe second favorite to Richard Scarry’s Cars And Trucks And Things That Go…but I loved it. Here’s the bestiary.

D&D General Would It Matter To You if D&D Books Were Illustrated by AI Instead of Humans?

I think it matters, it’s nice to have something real these days. I think that’s part of the appeal of RPGs, being with Real people, even if not in person. I think real artists is part of the D&D brand as well, publishing a history of your art and then just taking all the beholders you’ve ever...

[+] The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - SPOILERS ALLOWED

Seems like what Amazon licensed is pretty great for them, enough to put Tolkien’s name and LotR on it, but not enough to be limited in anyway from telling the story they want. The price not so great for them.

    Grognard view of One D&D?

So, I liked this post even though I don’t exactly understand where you’re coming from. It’s sad and I appreciate sad, but what it‘s sad about I just don’t truly get. I haven’t played this game for decades, and I’m surely less attached to it than many here, but to me, the most important thing...

    Grognard view of One D&D?

Reasonable? What’s reasonable about expecting a company to support your efforts to play a game they haven’t made in 30+ years? What’s reasonable in being salty with them when thay actually have by making legacy products available? What’s reasonable about expecting the company that’s moved on...

    Banned Book Recommendation Thread

It’s interwsting to see these efforts become more more successful as the ways around them increase. Awesome Liberians more important than ever.

    I haven’t seen a movie in theaters in about a decade…

Yeah, saw this preview too, it’s wild and long time fan of George Miller, looks awesome, it looks like a lot of money was spent on it, which is a shame cause this is gonna be a hard box office bomb, but still be awesome. The market for this movie is people like you, who don’t go see movies, so...

What props and special effects do you use while running games?

I use the tabletop audio site mentioned earlier. Plus Cantrip Candles for some smells, and monster pictures inserted into the front of my DM screen which I don’t actually sit behind.

    Grognard view of One D&D?

Um, why with the, not exactly persecution complex but, the bizarre antagonism and expectation that there will be something new for fans of a game that hasn’t been published in 40, 30, or 20 years? it‘s obvious if you didn’t like 5e, you’re not going to like what comes next, as they’re pretty...

Mazes at Midnight sounds cool, 50k gamers sounds like a nightmare.

    D&D (2024) Auto-succeed/fail on ability checks

is a good question. I struggle with this, especially knowing my players, and setting a DC knowing who’s coming up against it. Why I think player passive perception is stupid too. That said, you can probably see the difference between something set up before the players got there and you just...

    D&D (2024) Auto-succeed/fail on ability checks

I get that’s an opinion, meaningless rule, but since it’s being made, maybe you might want to explore and think about why they thought it might be necessary to say and what they thought it would change. If all you can come up with is “nothing” probably missing something.

    D&D (2024) Auto-succeed/fail on ability checks

If you don’t think this rule changes anything, I think you’re not understanding it, but I’ve said my peace, go on playing as you were. If it’s actually implemented in two years, worry about it then

    D&D (2024) Auto-succeed/fail on ability checks

Sure, but it does suggest more rolls than before.

    D&D (2024) Auto-succeed/fail on ability checks

I will pretty much disagree with this. Dm fiat is a hard wrong. The game has rules and adhering to them is important for consistency. DMs have wide latitude for judgement, but just making up stuff according to their whims, Fiat, is not at all central to D&D. It’s D&D with jerks when that’s...

    D&D (2024) Auto-succeed/fail on ability checks

I still go back to my original point, they get to roll unless impossible for everyone under the new rule. that Said, I’m exhausted on this topic and, frankly, was never gonna use this New rule anyway.

    D&D (2024) Auto-succeed/fail on ability checks

@Maxperson for what it’s worth, I ask this question about the proficiency gate Because someone more pedantic than me could say there’s a difference between tool, weapon, and armor proficiency and skill proficiency on a check. I’m not that person, your point is proven, but, you know, one...
