D&D General What do you think of the dubious Morales of this crime gang I made using tables A Mate made that saves the lives of babies via highly illegal means?

I think using babies as collateral is reductive and almost comically bad. Human trafficking is human trafficking. There are some great plays looking at this - Wastwater in particular- but there’s no way these are the good guys.

D&D General Let's Talk About Dragons

I am going to be controversial and say I don’t like dragons. The standard fantasy dragon is dull, obvious and played out. Nobody likes a smug villain, and too often dragons fall into that archetype. In a world of demigods, variant planes and other weirdness a smartass lizard with wings seems a...

D&D (2024) If short rest abilities become Prof # tiimes per day?

Some sort of abstraction based on proficiency/day might be better as it would ensure that playing a warlock doesn’t depend on whether or not your DM and/or party lets you take a short rest regularly. My own idea was proficiency/day you can spend a minute recharging your pact slots. So not...

D&D 5E What is balance to you, and why do you care (or don't)?

My view has definitely shifted over the years. I used to get caught up in numbers and tiers and all that stuff - now I think balance only ever matters at the table you are currently playing on. At the end of the day if everyone is happy, the balance is right. If they aren’t, talk about it and...

    Blades In The Dark

I really like Blades - it has pretty much the perfect narrative versus crunch set up for me. The sheer hackability (?) of it also appeals - change the names and you’ve got a neon-drenched 80’s tinged sci-if heist, or a pulpy as all hell 20’s cosmic horror game. I am very guilty of looking at a...

D&D General An Iconic D&D Villain Features In Stranger Things’ New Seasom

I have always viewed them more as codenames for weird and horrible things made up by D&D players rather than an attempt to represent D&D monsters. "Vecna" appears to be a Pinhead-esque thinking monster, which is awesome but also ensures I won't be watching this except through my fingers.

D&D 5E DMs, how do you fudge?

In a game where failure is part of the fun, there's no need to fudge. D&D - in my opinion - doesn't do a very good job of making failure fun. I'm not talking about the hilarity of absolute catastrophic failure, or those meat grinders you used to run where everyone came with a pre-rolled four...

D&D General How has D&D changed over the decades?

For me, the biggest change has been it's acceptance as just something you do in your spare time, rather than some sort of weird cult activity.

D&D General [+] Tell me about your favorite official D&D setting...

Mystara, because it was the first setting I really played in, and the Savage Coast/Red Steel because I loved the frontier, wild west feel and weird mutations of the Red Curse. That said, both have some ropey bits that I'd not be sorry to see go. Ravenloft is ace (all versions have their charm)...
