D&D 5E Halflings are the 7th most popular 5e race

Which classes don't benefit from a +2 to Dexterity? Barbarian, I guess, doesn't really need it. Which are the other two?

D&D General Fighting Law and Order

@Lanefan I appreciate you taking the time to explain your reasoning, and that all makes a lot of sense. I eschew settings with established power ecosystems- I prefer uncharted lands or frontiers because it circumvents all this - so although I'm unlikely to implement your ideals I can at least...

D&D General Fighting Law and Order

Why does that bigger fish only ever get involved when it's the players who've been naughty, though? Don't get me wrong - it's entirely fair for us all to nudge and wink and say 'let's just assume everyone else is off doing some other level-appropriate quest' - but my issue is only when the elite...

D&D General Fighting Law and Order

Your examples were both of organisations that are known for doing immoral things, and dirty work implied, well - dirty work. Killing civillians, acting extrajudiciously, committing crimes - anything that requires plausible deniability. I wish you'd not used real-life examples, as that is all I...

D&D General Fighting Law and Order

Fair enough. I guess I just struggle to square that with the idea that the party should be heroic - if the players are doing all the nasty immoral dirty work that the good guys won't do, then they aren't heroes, they're hired thugs at best. A fun campaign to be sure, but not everyone's cup of...

D&D General Fighting Law and Order

Right, I've not made myself clear. Why is there a need for adventurers at all in a civillisation where a small town of 3000 has a 16th level leader who is capable of calling in elite mercenaries, the Church or whatever else?

D&D General Fighting Law and Order

I am curious - do these high level NPCs have nothing better to do than chase after low level murderers? And if they do, why do you need PCs when there are so many big fish who could sort out the problems I assume the party is usually hired to deal with? I am not trying to make some debating...

    D&D (2024) Graze on a miss questions

My feedback for a lot of the Weapon masteries will be that the idea is good, but the names don’t work for me. Graze sounds like something I did to my knee when I was small - I’d prefer Impact or Crushing Blow (and then tie them into the less numerically popular bludgeoning weapons), in the...

    D&D (2024) Graze on a miss questions

Damage on a miss is ace. The graze property is fun. However, I’d rather like it to become the fighter’s schtick at a certain level, rather than be limited to certain weapons. I see it as making fighters a dependable, consistent combatant in the way that expertise makes rogues dependable...

    D&D (2024) I like the new Warlock

This is also a brilliant invocation, because it too completely changes gameplay. More of these, please.

    D&D (2024) I like the new Warlock

I like the move away from Pact Casting. I do not think I am convinced by the half caster idea as it stands, though. I will have to test it, but if this is the way then I would like them to consider adding almost the opposite of Mystic Arcana - over a certain level, let me cast specific low level...

    D&D (2024) Weapon mastery

I think Vex would be better as Feint. Rather than grant advantage on your next attack on a hit, it should grant it on a miss. It removes the spiralling advantage and represents a rapier wielder turning a miss into an opening.

D&D General What is the worst piece of DM advice people give that you see commonly spread?

I see it far more than I would like to - certainly here and on other discussion forums. I don’t think it would be appropriate to cite examples, though.

D&D General What is the worst piece of DM advice people give that you see commonly spread?

“Players are the enemy, and will seek to undermine you at every opportunity. Giving them a say at the table or treating them like equals is a huge mistake - they will use it to exploit you every time” I could not imagine running a game with people I do not trust and like, and yet some DMs...

D&D (2024) Is the 2024 rules update a new edition? Argue about it here (not everywhere else)!

There needs to be an ‘I don’t care’ option. Sure, I could just not post because I don’t care, but if you don’t care on the internet you need a way to tell people you don’t care, else how will they know? Ok, that’s about as far as I can bring myself to engage with this silly pedantry. Thank you...

    D&D (2024) Take A Closer Look At The 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide

I am definitely excited for what Cubicle 7 is up to. I really like their work on WFRP. Broken Weave looks ace, and Uncharted Journeys is interesting as well.

    D&D (2024) Take A Closer Look At The 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide

I really hope the new DMG has plenty of systems that can be dropped in as required. The tentatively-mooted Stronghold system, for example, but also systems that allow you to abstract travel without it boiling down to ‘ignore this if you have a ranger’, run a trial as social combat, or run a...

D&D 5E Upcoming D&D Tidbits: Phandelver, Book of Many Things, Venger, & More!

The Extra Life adventure ‘Lost Laboratory of Kwalish’ included an item called the ‘Deck of Several Things’ which was a powered down version of the original. The effects were tied into the adventure for the most part, but are exactly what you are asking for.

D&D (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

I think Reach should be a mastery option for a few of these - spear and trident most obviously. In the hands of a grubby peasant, a spear is a useful standard. In the hands of a retiarius, it is a deadly agile deathmaker.

    D&D (2024) It's not worth it/we are out of luck/time

I think if people have valid points to contribute, they should do so without fear of censure. I would argue, though, that once a point has been made it does not need to be made continually in every possible thread irrespective of its relevance. People should value the thoughts of other posters -...
