    D&D 5E Unused content

I think we're coming at this from different experiences, because I don't see most of the issues you do. To each their own!

    D&D 5E Unused content

I mean, I have read the subclass, played it and thoroughly enjoyed playing it. I'm not sure why you're explaining to me why I shouldn't like the thing I like, unless I'm misreading you. What you're describing is not my experience of it - perhaps when you played it you had a different experience?

    D&D 5E Unused content

Mastermind is unplayed content? News to me, it’s one of my favourite rogue subclasses. Everyone’s best friend!

D&D (2024) After my players tried to break it, we discovered that the new half-race rules are hilarious and terrible.

I think you've inadvertantly shown the benefits of the system. Your mission was to make (in your mind) silly combinations. You succeeded! I bet, though, for every combination you found humorous, someone trying in earnest could make a logical and narratively sound justification that makes sense...

    Grognard view of One D&D?

My question was asked in earnest, so thank you for replying in the same vein. I can understand the pull of having something 'just in case', so fair enough. As to the other poster, thank you for the considered reply. I am actually the same but opposite - having got around to actual tabletop play...

    Grognard view of One D&D?

This thread confuses me. You don't think D&DONE will bring you 'back into the fold'. You're 'not the audience'. You're 'not a 5E fan'. But you'll 'buy the PHB' anyway? Why? If you don't like something, why would you buy it? It makes no sense to me. If I don't like something, I don't buy it...

What props and special effects do you use while running games?

Notes, parchment, sealed letters, propaganda fliers, a tourist brochure… mostly paper items. I also rigged up a persistent bounty board for a campaign once. I used music on roll 20 but less so in real life. I’d recommend avoiding ambient candles - authentic smells of the era might sound...

D&D 5E Which "Original Adventures Reincarnated" have you run or played through in 5e?

Not played them, but I have both Castle Amber and Expedition to the Barrier Peaks on my shelf. I did run a heavily modified version of Castle Amber as a one-shot once as well - the meal was a definite highlight!

D&D (2024) Make the most outrageous claim about One

In One D&D you will only be able to play a version of Jet Li. There will only be a single entry in the new Monster Manual, which will also be Jet Li.

    D&D 5E Why No D&D & MtG cross-over book for 30the anniversary if MtG?

Ravnica is, and remains, one of the most useful setting books. Excellent NPCs and monsters - I ran a whole campaign with the Blastseekers filling in for the Technic League. My one regret is that it didn't have a special edition cover. Everything else waas perfect!

D&D General DMs: Do you review notes right before playing?

I do, but my notes are usually akin to the fevered ramblings of a madman. Luckily my players also take notes, so I always start with a ‘recap’ wherein I nod sagely as they tell me what I should be doing.

“I just don’t care what you have to say because it’s pure mince” Oh my, it works! This covers a multitude of fora, incidentally.

D&D (2024) [+] The things I like about D&D One Playtest, and the things I LOVE!

I think it’s moving in a very good direction. I love the increased modularity and the fact that what you did before adventuring is what forms the basis of your character. I think I’ll hold off on a full assessment before I see the other bits and pieces, but a lot of what is happening is in line...

D&D (2024) First playtest thread! One D&D Character Origins.

Politely, the current generation of young people has endured the most significant disruption to education since the Second World War. If that does not show stamina, I’m not sure what does. I grow more impressed with the work ethic of the children in my classroom with every decade, not less.

D&D (2024) Wizards Presents Live Coverage

No sign of dear old Eldritch Blast, so it could be getting reinvented as a class feature?

D&D (2024) Which races would YOU put into the 50th anniversary Players Handbook?

Race no longer gives modifiers or abilities except for a single cultural ability - the equivalent of a feat. Everything is moved to backgrounds and/or classes. Races are then everything we've had so far. Ability plus a bit of flavour text. Either half-races for every conceivable combination...

    D&D 5E Common house rules for 5e.

Free feat at first level. You can draw a throwing weapon as part of the attack. Initiative is done by allocating every participant a card, then shuffling the cards every round and picking them out one by one. If it's your card, it's your go. If you have advantage to your initiative roll, you get...
