D&D General Help Me with My Pathological Aversion to Third Party D&D Products

I have found Kobold Press's monster manuals to be indispensible: the three volumes of Tome of Beasts plus the Creature Codex. Also the two volumes of The Griffon's Saddlebag from Hit Point Press. Each has 100 or so 300-500 magic items that are flavorful and balanced, with full color...

    D&D (2024) Warcaster Cheesy Fondue 2024

Then why did you respond to my post which was in the context of players casting helpful spells on allies under 2014 rules under the excuse "I get to decide who counts as hostile"?

    D&D (2024) Warcaster Cheesy Fondue 2024

So, under 2014 rules, you make the judgment that your PC thinks the ally running past him is an enemy (in order to justify the opportunity attack), and you declare that your PC is casting haste on this "enemy" with the intention of ending it so as to stun them, but then your PC presumably...

    D&D (2024) Warcaster Cheesy Fondue 2024

That covers the specific case of haste, but that's not the only buffing spell you might want to cast on an ally. There's cure wounds, protection from evil and good, enlarge/reduce, calm emotions, and probably a bunch more that I'm not thinking of at the moment.

D&D 5E Best Third Party (not WotC) D&D Adventures?

If you like "Tomb of Tiberesh," I also recommend "Cat and Mouse," from the same setting. It's pretty clearly based on The Maltese Falcon.

Why would you want to buff a hostile creature?

D&D 5E Enhancing "Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus"

One other thing I added to the Vanthampur estate was a large crate in the duke's study. When the PCs opened it, they found it was full of advance copies of her soon-to-be-published autobiography. I then showed them the cover (made by Reddit user banana-milk-top and found in this post): As I...

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

Personally (and I fully expect to be flamed severely chastized for this), I think it's a mistake to put this sort of consideration ahead of what makes most sense for the fiction.

New Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Guide Art and Details Revealed

In case you couldn't tell, I was being tongue in cheek. It does make me feel kind of left out of the lovefest, but that's my problem.

New Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Guide Art and Details Revealed

They really are leaning heavy into the cartoon. Too bad for them that I have zero nostalgia for it--the only episode I've ever seen is this brilliant reworking:

D&D 5E Enhancing "Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus"

Things I've Changed: Chapter 1 My players are currently in the High Hall of Elturel in chapter 2. I thought I'd make a post about things I've changed. Some of these were my own idea and some I got from suggestions I found online or in supplements. Most of my PCs are native to Baldur's Gate and...

TSR How Did I Survive AD&D? Fudging and Railroads, Apparently

We're back to the "multiple definitions of railroad" problem, which always comes up when that term enters discussion. Some people use it to mean a linear campaign where one event leads to another and if the players try to wander "over there" and explore what's off the edge of the map, they miss...

D&D (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

Yeah, well. I'm already on record as being a heretic about other things that I'm assured are "integral to 5E design," so I guess we'll just have to add this to the list.

D&D (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

I can honestly say that the damage numbers are so far down on my list of things I enjoy about D&D as to be virtually nonexistent.
