I agree. Behavior like this can sometimes be a precursor to much more dangerous issues. The response seem to lend towards paranoia and a persecution complex (just a guess since I can't really fully diagnose) and those two can make a particularly nasty combination.

My players are really old school so they tend to push on to the point of collapse. I've never had to worry about that as a result.
