WotC WotC needs an Elon Musk

There are a lot of actual reasons to skip the moon and go to Mars for colonization. Yeah the Moon is closer and that has a lot of appeal, it's also very similar geologically to Earth which is another point in its favor. But Mars has a few really good points for it too. It's got a gravity...

WotC WotC needs an Elon Musk

It's also reasonable to expect the majority of worldbuilding to be aimed at newer players/dms since they will will need the most initial help with additional content for experienced players. "Aimed at new players" is not the same as "cutting out experienced players".

D&D General TSR to WoTC shift--OR--the de-prioritization on Exploration spells/classes

That's accurate, but tbh magic made almost all other classes near superfluous to some extent, but the thief/rogue really took the brunt of it. My DM was really good with designing encounters that allowed the party as a whole to participate and our group was also good with making sure players...

D&D General TSR to WoTC shift--OR--the de-prioritization on Exploration spells/classes

One of my biggest pet peeves with "modern" DnD design (4E and later) was the move away from spells as general utility. Yeah both editions do have utility spells, but nowhere near the emphasis as earlier editions. I had an elven Fighter/Wizard/Thief that prepped almost no pure damage spells...

    Homebrew A Leveled Up Bestiary

My mind completely translated that as Kobold Dragon.

D&D (2024) One D&D Cleric & Revised Species Playtest Includes Goliath

D&D doesn't make the distinction that a target has to be awake/aware in order to be a willing target of a spell. The only time it was an issue was the old days of Magic Resistance where a character with MR had to consciously drop it to allow an allied caster to not have to roll to bypass it. But...

Level Up (A5E) What is your most favorite and least favorite heritage in Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition?

Favorite: Dwarves: I've always loved Dwarves and I find the write up good. It wholly embodies the dwarven race we've all come to know and love while allowing individualization. Least Favorite: Tied gnomes and planetouched. Both of these I find just bland and generic which is a pity since...

D&D (2024) New UA one D&D play test document Dec 1st.

I'm going to focus on Aid here a bit. I don't like the change to THP to be frank for the following reasons. Also slight disclaimer, I know that some of the issues I have with it are because of specific rules I use at my table and your table may vary. That's fine. I just want to explain in case...

Level Up (A5E) Create or destroy Water creates nonpotable water. Does purify food and drink make that water potable?

I think I remember reading that it was a design decision to try and limit magic replenishment of supply in order to keep exploration difficult.

D&D (2024) One D&D Cleric & Revised Species Playtest Includes Goliath

It is. However the cleric in my game uses it primarily because it's not concentration. A lot of cleric spells are concentration so in a lot of cases my player has to choose which is the best one for the combat/encounter. His build isn't melee oriented and doesn't do a lot of damage in combat. SW...

D&D (2024) One D&D Cleric & Revised Species Playtest Includes Goliath

So if they're going to move all classes so that archetypes give abilities at the same levels does that also open the possibility to allow cross class archetype dipping? Maybe a feat allows you to count your main class as a Cleric (as an example) for the purposes of archetype benefits? I feel...

D&D (2024) One D&D Cleric & Revised Species Playtest Includes Goliath

Yes and no. You can still say you're a cleric of "x", but the benefits of that worship don't start until later. Also a lot of deities have multiple domain options so the choice of deity in 5E is less important than it was in previous editions.

D&D (2024) One D&D Cleric & Revised Species Playtest Includes Goliath

I find the change to the subclass and when the player gets access to abilities interesting especially if they keep that going forward. I do like the goliath abilities as presented.

D&D General So which 2e adventures are beloved?

I can't speak for others, but I did. I absolutely loved the setting and tried to run as many canned adventures as I could. I ended up running the following: The eternal boundary - Liked it. Good background and introduction adventure. Somewhat railroady and limiting for certain styles of...

Level Up (A5E) Trapsmith Rogue Improvised Crafting: RAW schenanigans

unrelated segue. When my dad was a starting professor down in Texas A&M he was so unpopular his students filled his car with sand. All of it. The engine, the radiator, the gas tank. He was less than happy. That said imagine how useful some of these are for trap finding/disabling. Is that a...

Level Up (A5E) Fumbles and Critical Saves?

I prefer crit fumbles that add flavor or are realistic over self damaging ones. Maybe you over extend on an attack and give advantage to enemies attacking you for one round or maybe your enemy entraps your weapon and you have to spend 1 attack (allowing others if you have multi-attack) to free it.
