Absurd can be subjective opinions. Yes. Guess where that comes from. The MM.

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

Aberrations are utterly alien beings. Abilities do they have drawn from the creatures' alien mind. Height of absurdity is trying to claim they are people. And a distraction. And irrelevant. To the issue at hand.

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

Most important issue. Is working on baggage of racist tones. Of racist depictions. In heritage of D&D. By working with groups. Can be some solutions in this thread. Then work with groups. Discuss monsters from their cultures. Discuss if there are issues with racism in depictions of monsters. If...

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

Call them humanoids. Or people. Something that should be gotten rid of is calling them demihumans. Game heritage of that part is bad.

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

What I understand. Skrull are militant conquerors. But. Captain Marvel turned a group into sympathetic refugees. Could do similar to orcs. Propaganda paints them as evil. But groups are sympathetic. Means. Simply killing is too simplistic. More importance needs to be in talking.

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

Orcs who were not made from evil. Why cannot they get divine magic from other sources. Their communities could have multiple shrines to other gods. Or if they do not believe in gods. Their faith could open up divine magic. So. These are not puppets of evil gods.

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

Not throwing anything out. You still have evil orcs. Who follow traditional gods. What I am doing is adding more layers of lore. Better lore. Well crafted lore. Ideally. You can still have traditional monsters. As well as better PC options. Without any issue of colonialism.

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

If orc lore was well crafted to begin with. And unique in its approach. There would no links to colonialism. Only what you choose to deliberately link to. Evil orcs are also fine here. If they are dominated by their evil gods. Reason is you have a balanced race. Not wholly evil.

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

If points are divisive. They can be replied to with respect. There are obviously evil monsters. Humanoids are not monsters I do not think. So they can be many alignments. They should be given the choice of alignments. Some can be defined by their gods. While others do not have to be.
  15. Xenonnonex

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

More needs to do with flaws with traits with ideals. In the game. Wizards needs to do more with those. Alignment is baggage in a lot of ways. Having multiple origins of races is good. No pinpoint origin. So different alignments can be for the same race. Then you can have obviously evil. And you...
  16. Xenonnonex

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

Think good and evil and neutral and law and chaos are still necessary. But make them subjective. And a choice for humanoids. Choice is key. Free will do they have. While also have objective alignments. Makes for more interesting games.

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

Another helpful point. Have streamed games play with monstrous PCs. And show them not engaging in evil. Will destigmatize.

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

Eberron is another example of nuanced humanoids. Other than humans. Means that Wizards is thinking about. And creating solutions to these issues.

But would not the point be they are very rare. Can build entire stories and campaigns around this. Shows that temptation of evil is too great. Impactful that even angels can fall. But also shows the power of good. But personally if there are to many of these makes it less impactful.

If gnolls are depicted in Volo's as they are. Right to change them to fiends. Otherwise create alternate lore. Bestial they can remain. But less obviously evil. Importantly they can be decoupled from demon lords.
