D&D 5E (2014) Choosing NOT to Long Rest?

The last tweet from Jeremy Crawford in this exchange suggests otherwise. As does that, as far as I've seen, you're the only person reading that passage of text in that way.

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

That there is more than one way to say a thing is not evidence that one of those ways is actually saying something different.

D&D 5E (2014) Choosing NOT to Long Rest?

The text you have quoted does not say what you think it says. Specifically, the "or" included between the words "sleeps" and "performs" shows that sleep is an acceptable thing to do, and performing light activity is an acceptable thing to do - so you can do one or both of those, but neither is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

The book informs us that it is about to list things which satisfy "a period of strenuous activity". If "1 hour of" is not applied to all of the items in that list, then only one period of activity ("1 hour of walking") is mentioned - the other list items (fighting, casting spells, similar...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

I disagree that it is like a shopping list. A shopping list inherently has an assumption of quantity for each list item because that's how shopping works. A list of activities does not have the same sort of inherent traits.

You've answered the question I asked with a couple of those, so thank you.

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

So you are saying that you believe the text to be ambiguous, but you refuse to have a conversation about how it could be less ambiguous unless the removal of ambiguity is accompanied by a change to the meaning of the passage? It's not obvious because some of us don't see the current phrasing as...

D&D 5E (2014) Eliminating darkvision from most races

In what way, exactly, was my question not "straight"? You've stated circumstances in which you do not live in a phrasing and context that suggests you believe some other person or persons do. I've asked you who you believe lives in those circumstances.

I'm not talking about anyone, you were. I was asking for clarification.

D&D 5E (2014) Choosing NOT to Long Rest?

There is no such requirement written in the rules.

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

You get a laugh, even though I don't agree with categorizing the asking of a question as an argument.

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

Um... no. I'm asking you a specific question, and that question has not been answered in this thread by anyone, though Helldritch did give a bit of an attempt at answering it. We have seen how people think the list should be worded assuming that the "1 hour of" portion only applies to walking...

D&D 5E (2014) Prestige Classes in 5e: What do you want to see?

I'm not opposed to their never being any sort of official prestige classes in 5th edition. Their used to be two basic sorts of prestige classes - those that were mechanical in purpose, and those that hung in-character organizational association on mechanics - and both of those can be handled by...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

If the intent of the list is that 1 hour total interruption consisting of any combination of those particular activities spoils a rest, what would a wording that is not very poor be?

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

I already explained the errors necessary for this one thing that is relevant to the conversation. I'm not wasting any time on anything not relevant to the conversation, like how other errors don't require as many mistakes. This case does not have to be a "special case" for it to be the only case...

    D&D 4E D&D Fluff Wars: 4e vs 5e

Yeah, some book or another suggested they'd bury themselves just below the surface of the sand to wait for something to ambush. I even recall a piece of art showing just the blue dragon's iconic yellow horns jutting out of the sand looking like rocks. I'm not sure I ever read that anywhere, but...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

No. That's not even remotely what I was doing. You are misrepresenting my statement that this particular thing, if it is an error, is the result of a pile/mountain of mistakes as the completely different statement "It takes a pile/mountain of mistakes for there to exist an error in the printed...

    D&D 4E D&D Fluff Wars: 4e vs 5e

It's a case of glaring lack of symmetry when compared to the other chromatic dragons; whites are found in snowy/icy terrain, greens dwell in forests, blacks favor swamps, and reds prefer hills and mountains - all of which result in the hue of the dragon potentially aiding camouflage in their...
