    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

You are misrepresenting what I said. Did I say "The D&D rulebook is infallible."? No. Did I say "It takes a mountain of mistakes for there to exist an error in the printed version of the book."? No. I said that this one specific instance of text and its meaning being the opposite of what is...

D&D 5E (2014) When Fiends Attack: Are Balors, Pit Fiends and Ultraloths too weak?

I agree. Minmaxed PCs need minmaxed monsters, unless the group are okay with "I did everything I could to be as devastating in combat as possible" meaning combat isn't as challenging as it would be with a less focused build.

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

I didn't say it is. I didn't say it did. I think it comes down to probability. Which is more likely? A) The experienced authors chose words and layout for a reason, the editing passes saw nothing wrong because nothing was wrong in this case, and a small number of people reading the passage are...

D&D 5E (2014) When Fiends Attack: Are Balors, Pit Fiends and Ultraloths too weak?

I might have, unless that "little tougher" also meant a higher CR. If a party isn't careful as-is, a balor might just take out the party's "squishy" by dying - while it's own death is nothing more than a speed-bump for it, since it is just sent home rather than actually killed.

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

That is correct. But it is also not an accurate assessment of what must be the case if 3 paragraphs and 3 headings were used in error, not caught in editing, sent to print, and remained in error despite being a great big notice it by flipping to that page because "Hey wait, why are there...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

Show me evidence. When the game text creates a specific definition of a word as it relates to the game, the standard definition of that word no longer applies. "Short Rest" and "Long Rest" are defined game terms, not casual language usage of those words. Reason both logical and RAW: The...

D&D 5E (2014) Most played classes in your local gaming area?

...you can only choose 4? Well I guess I just can't answer in any kind of accurate fashion that actually shows up in the results then. Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Fighter, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard have all showed up at my table in equal amounts, though the others aren't actually that far behind.

D&D 5E (2014) Good news! The RAW answer to: "When does a rest end?"

Again, that's your interpretation - not actually the "RAW answer", nor even the only possible interpretation. And it isn't an interpretation that is as supported by the actual words in the rule book as some others are, given the fact that it requires ignoring that the book specifically details...

D&D 5E (2014) The classes that nobody wants to play

Why is there not a "All the classes get played by somebody in my group" option?

D&D 5E (2014) Good news! The RAW answer to: "When does a rest end?"

No, people probably don't argue about it - outside of that I stated my interpretation of how resting works as being different than Arial Black's in another thread, and have since seen numerous misrepresentations of my interpretation and declarations that my interpretation leads to all sorts of...

D&D 5E (2014) Tome of Clear Thought -- Minimum Time?

That depends on how you mean the question. If you are asking if there are any rules in the book that detail what happens if characters don't sleep, the answer is "No." If you are asking if players should be sure to have their characters get reasonable amounts of sleep at reasonable times, the...

D&D 5E (2014) Good news! The RAW answer to: "When does a rest end?"

Yes, and I too should be sure to add that I'm okay with separating a long rest and a short rest with a meaningful period of exercise (i.e. "a quick jog" or "my normal morning calisthenics routine", but not "I do like 4 jumping-jacks" or some other thing which is clearly trying to exploit a...

D&D 5E (2014) Good news! The RAW answer to: "When does a rest end?"

You'd have to ask Jeremy Crawford if it is the intent, but the phrasing and layout used in the Player's Handbook suggests that the players are expected to be declaring what sort of rest is being taken, such as "We take a short rest" or "We take a long rest", and then the paragraph of text under...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

There are multiple types of frustration, some of which are "good", and some of which are "bad." For example, being frustrated because a particular challenge is requiring all of your skill/wit to overcome is often good because finally overcoming the challenge, thus alleviating the frustration...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

Since I'm not arguing for the absence of strategic and tactical choices, this statement of yours is entirely irrelevant to the discussion at hand. No, you don't need to play according to a tweet, and no one said you did. However, I don't think saying things like "against what I see as the clear...

D&D 5E (2014) Tome of Clear Thought -- Minimum Time?

48 hours, as clearly stated in the book. How is that assumption "obvious"? I didn't make the same assumption upon reading the text. Because if you've spent 40 hours studying over the 6 days you've been at it, but then you say "I'll finish up tomorrow" instead of "I'll finish up tonight." you...

Request for Comments on Beyond 20th Level Progressions

My experience with D&D over a few editions/versions now has show me that the ones that work best in the capacity of "keep playing forever" are the ones that scale things back, and then even turn most of things "off" at a certain point - such as AD&D 2nd edition (pre-DM's Option: High-Level...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

I have found that not all players require their choices to be mechanically incentivized, and that no more reason not to pause for eight hours (seconds, to the players, of course since saying "We take a long rest" doesn't take any meaningful amount of time) is needed than that the player's are...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

On the topic of "a combat is never going to last an hour," I have to say that I agree that is unlikely, but also think it isn't relevant. Yes, the combat won't last an hour, but the combat plus dealing with the aftermath of the combat, moving camp to try to avoid further combat, or doing...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

No, you obviously have to choose what sort of rest you are trying to have when you start it because the interruption conditions are different.
