Anyone else tired of the miserly begrudging Rogue design of 5E?

What Paul said. Because of all the unhelpful, unnecessary, and yet ever-present blech included, I can't even be sure what the "message" really is. If you don't find my suggestion of altering the way you choose to communicate in order to alter the responses you receive helpful, that's on you -...

Anyone else tired of the miserly begrudging Rogue design of 5E?

Maybe stop playing the victim, stop wildly misrepresenting everyone's statements if they don't immediately agree with you, stop using hyperbole and other word choice that tries to paint a problem you are having as one that is inherent to the subject matter (by which I mean that you say things in...

    Game time in combat?

How much session time we spend on combat at my table depends on a lot of factors, the primary of which are the story circumstances of the campaign and how the players choose to react to creatures they encounter. My current campaign involves a lot of combat because there are unthinking and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Passive Investigation?

You say that as if hiding that a roll has been made is the only way to have the outcome of that roll be uncertain.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Case for Inspiration

I don't use inspiration anymore for a number of reasons. Roughly ordering them in descending influence over my decision to not use inspiration going forward: The group tried - really tried - to remember to use it, but still rarely ever used inspiration once they had it. The group didn't feel...

Guidance Cleric cantrip is really dumb

Goblinoid? Are you trying to call someone a troll and mistakenly believe that to be a type of goblinoid? They are giants. Also, accusing people of being sock-puppet accounts just because they happen to agree while disagreeing with you is terribly uncouth.

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM what spell / ability do you find most annoying?

Some cursed items specifically mention that identify outs them as being cursed (I have no idea why, but they do).

    DM Shortage?

That could be part of it. To me it just seems like folks are more willing to join a campaign when they feel they have a clear indication of what they can expect.

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM what spell / ability do you find most annoying?

Before 5th edition made identifying a potion only take having a sip of it, I saw more than one party die with unidentified healing potions on hand because the players thought the risk of drinking an unidentified potion was greater than the risk of running into more monsters while their...

    DM Shortage?

Since 5th edition has come out, I've seen more and more people willing to take a shot a DMing. While there are still less DMs than there are players, which is a normal thing given the normal ratio of players to DMs while the game is being played, I definitely wouldn't say there is a shortage.

What are the DM's obligations of disclosure for sensitive game material? What is "sensitive" game material?

Those sorts of creatures just don't come up unless the group I'm playing with at the time are okay with the subject matter implied by their nature, and even then they are presented in a way as to not seem like anyone is trying to say what they do without consent of their targets is "okay" or...

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM what spell / ability do you find most annoying?

If I had to pick anything, it would be critical hits. Players insist they enjoy them, but the rules heavily favor the monsters and a critical hit from the right sort of creature (one with a lot of dice in it's attack's damage) at the wrong moment can put a player out of participation for a...

Guidance Cleric cantrip is really dumb

There is nothing about it being used in out-of-combat situations that stops it from being the difference between a long duration concentration spell lasting into a second encounter or not.

Guidance Cleric cantrip is really dumb

    It's a concentration spell, so that's a downside.

What are the DM's obligations of disclosure for sensitive game material? What is "sensitive" game material?

I handle this the other way around - rather than me disclose all the things I have planned for the campaign that might upset a player's enjoyment or comfort at the table, I give every new player to my table prompting before we even start playing together to tell me what, if anything, would...

D&D 5E (2014) What is your current way to roll stats

My group have recently moved away from the method previously stated in this thread for us (which was for them to get stats however they wanted). The reason for the change was that the players felt being able to choose whatever they wanted to do left them spending time trying to decide, when...

How often do you see these fighter archetypes at the table?

I've seen each once, but archer twice and polearm user twice.

...wait, you're saying using facts to support my arguments rather than just pulling things out of my nethers is clutching at straws? Physician, heal thyself. Two. Storm King's Thunder also uses a different "formula". Fact check: besides disagreement on the above number, the sentence you put in...

"Are the Authors of the Dungeon & Dragons Hardcover Adventures Blind to the Plight of DMs?"

That's a really weird way to count. Named for the assumed hub of a tavern in Waterdeep (albeit not giving more info about Waterdeep without going to other sources), Oakhurst - 0 towns. Durnan, random chart of NPCs, whatever NPCs might be mentioned in the actual adventures - 0 NPCs. And...
